Philip Perkins Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 https://schoeps.de/produkte/zubehoer/anwendungen-tisch/auf-dem-tisch/maiersound-turtle.html I am looking for a USA source for the MaierSound "Turtle" boundary mic mount. So far the usual suspects don't carry them. Any ideas of who might have them? There is a dealer in the UK... thx
Fred Salles Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 That is quite an interesting and clever concept! I never thought any mike could be used to form a boundary layer setup but it makes total sense. I suppose you use omni mikes mostly with it?

No - cardioids will still give a forward facing (backward cancelling) pattern and may be chosen for 'front of stage' positioning for instance. I do say I like the design: basically tough enough to stand on or take a prop fall ... I think I'd have the capsules a little further back myself (especially if using Schoeps...) but the photo illustrates the use nicely enough. (Sorry Philip, still not answering your question)! Jez
JHeath Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 If you find these, I'd love to know where you get them. Have you tried contacting Redding Audio? They are the Schoeps distributor, they might have an in?
Matthew Steel Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Still not answering the original question, but on the subject of using any old mic as a boundary microphone, we used to have some of these Electrovoice 411 foam mounts to use RE10 or RE15 as boundary mics on the floor.
Philip Perkins Posted November 14 Author Report Posted November 14 So far no go for a USA dealer (incl. Redding). These are pretty expensive for what they are (like $300). I think they would work well but would probably be a tougher sell to production at the lip of stages where they'd be silhouetted from the audience POV (vs PCC160 etc). I wonder if someone has made a 3D printed knockoff or similar thing?
Jim Feeley Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 I'll suggest the obvious, but did you try asking Maier Sound directly? I bet they speak better English than I do German. 😉 https://maiersound.de/kontakt/ Jim "really good at providing the easy answers" Feeley
The Immoral Mr Teas Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 I'll suggest the other obvious - metal or wood with holes drilled in (for the sound) and foam (for the support). But for the quality suggested by the photo $300 is actually on a par or less than I would have originally guessed. J
