osa Posted December 13, 2024 Report Posted December 13, 2024 I have an editor friend whom i do production sound recording for on projects as well as audio post with pro tools. in a perfect world i get pic lock and audio post as one normally would. Lately he is getting projects where he wants to present to client as "this is what it could look/sound like" and we are struggling finding a modern workflow to make both audio and video changes along the way as client makes decisions. I used to have great success with EdiLoad to track changes but the different worlds of video edit and audio post seem to always work against me. Is a possible solution for this - I subscribed to adobe to get Premier or Audition and work with picture edit in a cloud based environment until we reach picture lock? curious how others in a similar PSM and Audio Post situation currently approach this. -Ken Quote
The Documentary Sound Guy Posted December 14, 2024 Report Posted December 14, 2024 I don't work in post, but I'm currently bringing a documentary through post as a director and we have been 100% in DaVinci Resolve. If you use it for both picture and sound (the Edit & Fairlight tabs), there's no conform step going back and forth, which makes it more possible to go back and do picture edits after picture lock and during the sound edit. It's also cloud-based, which makes it possible for video and audio to work remotely without shuttling things back and forth. Not saying that's an ideal workflow, and it would presumably be a big decision for your client to change post programs, but maybe it could help? Quote
Philip Perkins Posted December 14, 2024 Report Posted December 14, 2024 If the client really wants a "rolling" post (and is willing to pay for the hours to do this) then I conform the changes and output temp mixes to the editor as we go. It is, as you know, a misery. Everyone working in the same app is an interesting idea, but so far the audio parts of Premier and Resolve don't cut it for me vs the usual audio apps. The pic editor doesn't want to deal with all my audio tracks, bussing and plugs and I don't want to be dragging lots of pic clips and tracks along... Quote
ivanovich Posted December 20, 2024 Report Posted December 20, 2024 there’s this program called Matchbox. it helps with reconforms big time. it’s pricey but if you’re doing a lot of post it’s totally worth it. resolve fair light is definitely not up to par and lacking so much of what we use. i’d say that budget should be expanded to accommodate clients demands/wishes. osa Posted December 21, 2024 Author Report Posted December 21, 2024 ^wow thanks for posting this one as i had never heard of this. I use ediload which works well when it works but sometimes depending on version of premiere and misc settings it doesnt work. xml gives me a great map to track changes manually. BUT - matchbox looks like tracking changes for graphics, picture, subtitles AND audio is pretty action packed Quote
Rick Reineke Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Vegas Pro is relativity intuitive NLE.. and has a substantial DAW built in. When Vegas was first published in 1999 by Sonic Foundry ans was an audio-only DAW, Basic video support was added in version 3 as I recall. Vegas has been a full blown NLE for quite a few years now and still has the full featured DAW. The sister audio editor/mastering app, Sound Forge (or other stand alone audio editors), can be integrated into Vegas as well. Quote
jozzafunk Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 +1 for Matchbox - Justin the software developer is a audio post expert who's been doing big complex conforms for years ( think LOTR on ) and wrote software to handle the changes. I would suggest getting Matchbox and talking to him ( https://www.thecargocult.nz/products/matchbox/ ) about personalizing the workflow Quote
