Turns out the good, innovative people from the 'old' Rycote aren't actually far away!

...in every sense of the word.

Not road tested, but an interesting development!

Radius are a first class company, run by the family that originally set up Rycote until it was sold a few years ago. Radius are innovating constantly, asking question from the UK sound community and sending products out for beta testing in every genre: documentary, reality, TV drama and feature films.

Interesting! What M/S mics are you using with this configuration?

None thus far, but DMS with 8040/8030 is the plan.

There are a bunch of photos online of M/S and DMS clips for Radius mounts, so I am patiently holding out that they might sell them separately. Otherwise I'll 3D print a DMS clip to mount in the middle.

My MS and DMS clips are, I suspect, among those you are referring to. I've been helping Radius with their MS clip, which will be in production soon; but they have no plans for a DMS clip at present. I developed the 3d-printed DMS clip as a slightly tongue-in-cheek exercise for the Mini-ALTO (which uses the hoops, of course), but when using DMS in my Cyclone I must admit I use the Rycote DMS set up.

Cheers,

Roland

PS Here is a link to my blog-post about the MS and DMS clips, which has links to the freely available files: https://drbadphil.com/3d-printing-clips-for-the-radius-windshield-hoops

And just to add that Radius have now got their injection-moulded clips (19mm and 20mm versions) into production. I received a pair of the 19mm ones the other day (photos below showing with and without the rubber straps): happy to make my 3d-printed ones redundant!

Cheers,

Roland

Very nice.  Looks like a very full zeppelin.  My MS setup is the original diameter MKH series, and I suspect they'd be too big to fit.

Have they also created a DMS clip?

Yes, the MKH 30 + MKH20/40/50 etc. MS pairs are too large for the RAD-2 hoops and Mini-ALTO: though the upcoming ALTO should work for them. No DMS clip for the Mini-ALTO yet. I have designed and 3d-printed a couple of DMS options for the RAD-2 hoops (photo of one below), which work fine, but, to be honest, aren't ideal in a Mini-ALTO: unlike with MS, with DMS the fig 8 needs to be between the pair of hoops and, consequently, its sideways facing lobes face the chunky pair of plastic rings where the two windshield halves (pods) join - not good.

Cheers,

Roland
