Any good tips on mic'ing a haircut shot? Have done one before and the cover made the lav almost useless

Boom, but when an electrical hair trimmer comes in use you're lost.

Maybe a very furry lav under the cover.

I’ve done multiple barbershop shoots. I’ve had good luck with the Ursa foamies with a 3D printed cover so that they are reusable. It mitigates the rustle of the barber’s cape.

 

The bigger challenge I’ve had is the noise of the trimmers being very loud on the barbers’ lavs since they often hold the trimmers right at chest level.  I’ve asked the director/producers if we could turn off the trimmer and fake the haircut when there is critical dialogue, but they’ve always wanted to keep it “real”.
