Hi everyone, I’m a location sound mixer using a Lectrosonics SRC + HMA Plug-On setup. I’m also using iZotope RX10 Advanced for post cleanup.

During an indoor shoot yesterday, I placed a microphone close to a ceiling-mounted pinlight (not part of the lighting department's gear — it was part of the building).
In the recording, there’s an unwanted electrical interference that appears in the 2.12s to 3.05s section, likely caused by that light fixture.

I’d like to know if this can be cleaned up or repaired using Spectral Repair or any other RX module.
If anyone has dealt with a similar issue or has tips for repairing this kind of noise, I’d be really grateful for your advice.

I've attached the audio file with the affected section. Thanks in advance for listening and for any suggestions!

I personally use Steinberg's SpectraLayers Pro, which is amazing to say the least and is  lower in price than RX Advanced. So I would assume RX Adv. can remove extraneous noise effectively as well.
The only issue I had with SLP is the rather steep leaning curve if editing the spectral graph if that is necessary,  the 'unmix' tools are basically automatic and work well, isolating dialog and other elements exceptionally well. I think the latest version (SLP-12) was recently published which can be used as a stand-alone app or as an ARA plug-in on a DAW.

I'm hearing background ambiance but not electrical interference.  I'm listening on my desk top but could take a listen in my mix room to see if I can hear it.  I have RX9 and would be happy to take a look at the issue and see what's possible.  You can email me a file at bfbeaudry@comcast.net, or you might be able to attach a file here.  Please give me a longer example so I have context, 30 seconds or a minute.  I also have Spectral Layers Pro so I can try both to see what a solution would be.  I like the screen resolution and variable colors and intensity of RX compared to SLP, especially if doing spectral editing.  It's RX's greatest feature in my opinion.

I can hear some mildly distracting noise between 0.0 and 2.4 seconds – that could definitely be eliminated. Also, there's a bit to clean up near the end, starting around 5.6 seconds.

Would you be interested in how to do that? I added a quick cleanup example – let me know if that works for you.

RX is an excellent tool for this – probably the best! Though of course, the ideal solution would be to record it clean in the first place...

I'm happy to help if needed – just not sure yet how much help you're actually looking for. Let's see what you think. I'm also learning as I go, so it's a good opportunity for both of us. 🙂
