softstar86 Posted October 1, 2025 Report Posted October 1, 2025 I am currently using the Sound Devices 788T recorder along with the CL-8 controller, but I’ve encountered an issue: the CL-8&CL-9 does not seem to connect or communicate with the 788T. I would like to ask what might be causing this problem. Is it possible that the USB port on the 788T is malfunctioning? I’ve tried reconnecting the devices and checking cables, but the issue persists. Any chance this can be user-repaired, or is it a factory-only fix? Quote

If they don’t power up or communicate, I think you should check that you’re using the correct C. Link cable, the latest 788T firmware, and proper connection order (788T → CL-8 → CL-9). If still unresponsive, the 788T’s C. Link port may be faulty — it’s not user-repairable and needs factory service from Sound Devices. Quote
Dick Sandhaus Posted November 21, 2025 Report Posted November 21, 2025 The above information is incorrect. C-Link has nothing whatsoever to do with the CL-8 or the CL-9. The CL-8 and CL-9 connect to 700 series recorders via USB ... period. https://www.sounddevices.com/linking-multiple-7-series-recorders-using-c-link/ Quote
Philip Perkins Posted November 21, 2025 Report Posted November 21, 2025 C Link was for connecting up to 3 7xx machines so that they follow the TC, clock and transport controls of the first machine in the series. It was a great useful thing, missed in later SD models. Quote
