Derek H Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 Interesting discussion of the Astral system. I demoed a nexus with a few A20 mini and TX transmitters a little over a year ago and was impressed. Definitely seemed like sound devices was on the right track. I would agree the remote control features were nearly flawless and long ranged even on a large and RF cluttered stage with countless WiFi APs and wireless DMX. Simon, our situation in the US is a little different as I’m sure you know. The transmitters cannot record while transmitting and also our wireless band plan does not include a dedicated allotment for wireless microphones which is something I’ve heard you enjoy in the UK. After my demo of the system I was left wondering how difficult it might be to achieve a high channel count with the Astral system if you couldn’t find a clean span of 24MHz. I would say it’s very rare here to find that much contiguous quiet RF space in any decent sized city. Do you have any experience using the Astral system in a crowded RF environment where you had to accommodate strong signals or DTV within the Astral’s bandpass? How does it hold up? Is the signal reliability impacted? Also, I’m wondering if you had to go without the onboard recording would you still be on your analog wireless as the primary system? Thanks! Quote
