Suggestions on Film Mixing and Re Recording

I'm currently enrolled in an audio engineering school where we had our first project for which we got 3 days to do the post work. Day 1 was spent on track layering aaf check and dialogue editing etc and next day on sound design and second half of third day was spent on the mix. We had 8 hour shift during these three days. It was quite hectic and during the process I found myself interested more towards film mixing, but the drawback was that there was less time to mix or maybe I wasnt getting enough ideas during the mix mainly due to workload or something else. I need suggestions or tips on how to approach film mix when you are working on small projects where you have to do the sound design as well, and what is the role of a re recording mixer in the final process and is there any book or an essay on how to become a better film mixer or re recording engineer although Ive heard that film mixing is an advanced thing and takes years to develop.

That it is. Hopefully you'll get the suggestions and tips you need at the audio engineering school. Be patient, don't expect to learn it all at once; pay attention: my two tips for you.

 

Funnily enough both tips which our 'whey aye' replacers don't seem to follow.

I know it says sound design, but Randy is tops and I think a search for his material will lead to other insights.
