LDstudios Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 Hi all, I purchased a nice, shiny new pair of HN7506HSC-S a little over a year ago. They haven't seen a whole lot of use, but they quickly became my favourite headphones. Comfortable. Sound decent. Great isolation. They also feel really sturdy with the thumbscrews and metal headband. The annoying part - last week I popped them on and have no sound from the left ear. A multimeter confirms the problem. They are 2 months outside of the 12 month warranty and have probably only been used 50 times since new. I don't monitor loud at all (hence the desire for isolation...). Does anyone have any input/experience with Remote Audio headsets... or their repairs? They don't look like an easy repair. It almost looks like they are a throwaway design compared to Beyers or other models. Any words of encouragement, or a reality check from other users? I really was hoping for the price they cost, we would be together for the long haul. Quote
Izen Ears Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 Whoa, that sucks! I've got three of those and nothing like that's ever happened. And a couple of them really saw a lot of abuse. You got a lemon! Maybe Trew will fix em for free if you ask nicely. Quote
OB1 Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 I had a similar experience with them when I purchased them new. Although they appeared rugged, a couple of years of light use and they started falling apart (cable loose, intermittent cutoff on R, etc.). I take great care of all my gear BTW. RA wanted to charge me $150 to repair them, so I walked away and picked up a pair of HMD-25 and haven't looked back. The On-ear design created enough isolation for relatively high noise (and the improved dynamics IMO) and you can still find HMD-25 used or refurbed, and have them properly wired for an 8 series (or 6xx) for a fraction of the price of the HN7506HSC-S. When I need true high SPL isolation i use my Vic Firths with a separate boom talkback mic connected to the mixer. Quote
The Documentary Sound Guy Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 Good luck with the HMD-25. I've had four pairs of HD-25 (same headset, no mic), and every single one eventually develops the same connection fault in one or both ears. See: Quote
Philip Perkins Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 Are you sure you don't just have a broken cable? They aren't that hard to get apart, so you could test the driver (for which you could get a replacement). Quote

It could be a broken cable, but it doesn’t really change the outcome as testing for continuity puts the fault somewhere between the curly cable side of the power switch and the driver in the left ear/cable side of the headset. I can’t really see how to get them apart. I’ve replaced plenty of cables and drivers in headphones like Beyers, but these seem far more complicated in build. The driver is mounted on the inside of a perforated board, which is mounted on the inside of the white moulded ear cups. if anyone has any tips, I’d happily consider it. I’ve been in touch with the supplier I purchased them from, and am going to send them in for an evaluation first. Quote

I have 2 HMD-25s, one I purchased after I gave up the RA around 2019 and absolutely no issues. The second I purchased 2020 used and had them rewired for my boom ops and that one also absolutely no issues either. Quote
