Support seems to be waining here in North America for these units. I have been in contact with the Canadian service and repair facility and have had some response but not as much as I have hoped for.

I am using version 1.31 software in my PD606 and v1.30 in my PD204 and enjoying the solid nature and extra features. I especially like being able to mirror to a USB thumb dive as any file name changes are reflected on the mirror USB also.

I believe that they have enabled a function 'roll on incoming timecode' which I haven't tested out yet.

Latest software releases as found on the Fostex Japan website:

PD606 - Version 1.31

PD204 v1.30 (http://66.163.168.225/babelfish/translate_url_content?.intl=uk&lp=ja_en&trurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.fostex.jp%2ffiles%2fpd204%2fPD204V130.zip)

Also, many improvements to the DV824 surrounding TC acuracy and DVD RAM useability (fixes occasional unstable format of disk)

DV824 v2.25 (http://www.fostex.jp/files/dv824/dv824ver225.zip)

Good Luck

Eric

Kevin,

Simply copy the links I posted and paste them into your browser and they will download to your computer.

The Fostex Japan site can be translated using bablefish but the language is imprecise.

I found that any usb thumb drive works well though 2.5in drives in external cases don't seem to work and I don't know why. If any user has success with this I would welcome the info.

There is a usb drive test in the service menu (along with many other usefull tools) and this is accessed by pressing the stop button and the menu button at the same time, then scrolling to the bottom of the menu to find 'service'.

Keep me posted Kevin and other users.

~Eric

I have never been able to open, copy or download any upgrades  from Fostex USA, International or Japan.

Rick Cannetta sent me a disc once and the other upgrades were done by Mike Paul, at LSC.

I have version 1.30 So when I see version 1.31  I have to assume its a newer or newest version? Is it?

The PD204 I have, has Version 1.10  Would like it to be current, ie. version 1.30  Maybe a trip to LSC for that :~)

Eric,

One more thing, what kind of thumb drive are you using? (brand name).  I have read that some types don't work or work so well.

Sometimes you need to remove the built in backup software that comes preinstalled on the thumbdrives.  For the drives that i own, i did a search for U3 removal tool and found software that cleaned up the thumbdrive for me.  I had no luck getting a external disc drive to work.  I also had no luck in getting a USB CF reader/writer to work as well.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

Actually the update process is as simple as setting your clock radio or your morning coffee!

Simply copy the URL I posted exactly into your browser and the file will be downloaded to your harddrive. You then must open the file using winzip as it is a compressed file. Inside the compressed file is the update ie. PD606V131.MOT. Burn this file to a CD and close the disk/finalize it. Insert it into your machine and drive partition select the CD/DVD. it will ask you if you want to update to version xxx, you say yes and sit back and sip your scotch.

You are also do this with the thumb drive instead of a CD/DVD except on the PD204 as with software versions pre 1.30 there isn't USB hosting support.

This should be a process that you are familliar with as a user because if anything goes wonky with your machine(s) this is the first and best way to verify that your machine is ok software wise.

Call me if you would like me to walk you though it (and you can by me the Scotch!) 001 250 896 7032

Good luck,

Eric

John,

Ive used Verbatim 2, 4, 8gig and now Kodak 8gig (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/kodak-8gb-usb-flash-drive/10129081.aspx?path=3e84c153ac73fa09810b41f5bf5ebf0den02) very successfully. Format FAT32, not NTFS or HFS. It works even if I format in a PC/MAC and then use it direct on the Fostex machines,  no need to reformat.

I have also not succeeded using a USB CF adaptor, but then why would I need that..... I tried it out for fun and realized that a USB thumbdrive is far cheaper and just as transfurable.
