larry long
Who uses them on their cart? I was thinking about using a d-sub tt setup. Thoughts or suggestions? LL
Richard Lightstone, CAS
I am using the Aviom patch bays -- D-subs (rear side) Male and Female XLR on facing side for Inut and Output routing.
Jeff Wexler
I built a custom patch "point" (not technically a patchbay) for all of the sound carts I have built. It consists of a 3 RU panel with all the necessary connections (with the proper type connector for each use), for example 2 boom connections (a pair each, MALE XLR, FEM XLR for duplex connection), MALE XLRs for AUX outs, BNC connectors for video in, etc. Out the bottom of the 2 sides of the rack panel there are multi-cables (8 and that connect to the mixer, the recorder, the Comtek transmitter, the video monitor, etc. This has worked well for me although it is not really a patchable patchbay, it serves to expedite easy connections to all the equipment in one place. Philip Perkins
This is a good idea, if only to save wear on the mixer's connectors--hard to fix, those. Do you end up repatching a lot on location? I guess with a big multi-multitrack rig you might well do so... Philip Perkins

D Subs to a Yamaha mixer? To Deva? Philip Perkins
Richard Lightstone, CAS
D-sub to fan out to connect to my Yamaha 01V96. I'm using cables made by Zaolla.
Jeff Wexler
Fantastic looking cable --- went to the website and I am not so convinced of all the hype about high frequency signal travel, etc., but they certainly appear to be very rugged and well constructed cables. Also, available in short length, 3 feet I believe, which many of the other sub-D fan-out cables are not (Hosa cables, for example, I think 5 feet is shortest and no where near the quality of construction). What is your best source for these Zaolla cables? Regards, Jeff Wexler
Darren
REDCO is another excellent manufacturer of custom cables. You can design and price your cable right on their website. http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?multi=yes&id=655 -Darren

Richard Lightstone, CAS
Jeff, Coffey Sound is a dealer. That's why I buy the Zaolla brand - the 3 foot length is perfect. A hat tip to Mark Ulano who turned me on to the company three years ago. Richard Lightstone
