I'm wondering...

A couple of things really, since you can select which tracks to record in the Deva, if I select track 1mix, track 2 as safety, track 4 wire and track 8 wire. Do they come up as track 1234 in telecine and post ?

I also remeber reading something once about Avid or Protools not being able to read odd numbered files, like 3,5, and 7 tracks. Is this still true?

thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry,

Unfortunately not, if Fostex's are being used for telecine.  The Fostex's ignore track number assignments and slide your recorded tracks down to the first available tracks.  This is due to their very limited implementation of iXML.  They have not implemented the part where they can read the actual assigned track numbers.

So, if you recorded only on tracks. 1,2,4, & 8, as in your example above, They would playback on the Fostex's tracks 1,2,3, & 4.

I can't speak as to what occurs when telecine-ing using Indaw.

Many Avids cannot handle anything other than 1,2,4,or 8 track files.  As always, extensive testing in pre-production is your best friend.  A common workaround is to record blank tracks.

Cheers,

Darren
