snd.waves
I was sure I read a post some time ago about L-series batteries, maybe it was on RAMPS, but couldn't find anything here through a search here. Anyway, I need to replace my Sony (7.2/4600) battery that I have sitting flush in my 788. It has always underwhelmed me, may have been a dud from the start. There seem to be a lot to choose from so I thought i'd see what others are using and happy with. Thanks!
Mark LeBlanc
Lenmar makes a great 7800 mAh battery that I've used for a few years. Pretty sure this is the unit.. The charger Lenmar makes is also pretty good.. When I'm in bag mode I use two of these powering the BDS with a Hawk Woods dual battery unit that I gutted and re wired to run serial that gives me a starting voltage of 16.3 http://www.amazon.com/Lenmar-LIS970P-Lithium-ion-Camcorder-Equivelent/dp/B000TKP858
jonathan chiles
I am in the same situation and also need a replacement asap. I really think SD should provide a better quality battery with their recorders. I have read reviews saying the Sony batteries do last a lot more cycles than the generic pearstone, lenmar etc what about Swit anybody? studiomprd
" SD should provide a better quality battery " I see it differently: Size, weight, and power are all variables, and we all make our own decisions, many of us powering externally, so the provided battery may be just a backup for many of us (like me!). Jon Gilbert
Hawk Woods user here, no complaints
jonathan chiles
Agreed senator, especially with the 788 which is power hungry, but the 4600mah that comes with the recorders seems like a token battery that must be replaced very soon. We have to have that internal to fall back on while switching the external power.. anyways you guys know all this already:)
VM
I also use Hawk-Woods batteries. An F980 for quiet jobs (wild sound) and NP65 type for intense works with their small charger. If you also need to powered radio mics receivers it's better to have two batteries system : one for the 788 the other for receiver Vincent
studiomprd
" seems like a token battery ... " exactly, backs up dirung external battery changes, or gets you started when your new toy arrives, before you buy whatever batteries you plan to use regularly. remember a premium battery will add to the price: so a $50 battery at SD will cost over $100 to the customer, in the price, and then the customer will still complain it is not what they want. Matt McGowin
I mainly use a bds with NP's to power my SD788 rig. awhile back I bought an inexpensive charger at fry's that I can plug into the wall and it shows the batt charge level. I have a larger Lenmar batt that i got from lsc as a backup. it worked fine everytime I used it with my old 744SD recorder
David A-Ribeiro
I bought the SWIT S-8970 with their charger/adaptor (Europe) with dual power output and am quite happy with it all. Bulkier batteries obviously, but the difference in batt life outweighs the difference in size. I agree SD should provide more decent batteries, especially when you see what other recorders include. But must also say that after 3 years the original Sony are still going pretty much like always.
Malcolm Davies Amps CAS
There is a company in Germany selling 8000Ma/h for about 75 US dollars including shipping. I'll try and find the details to post. Using two of these in a Hawk Woods double shoe powers a 744 for a couple of days. Malcolm Davies. A.m.p.s. Jon Gilbert
I'd be really interested to see that link Malcolm, it's not Thomann is it? 8000Mah batts would be worth seeking out.
MatthewFreedAudio
Some of the knock off batteries don't lock in very well so be sure to check that out.
Malcolm Davies Amps CAS
The info I posted about the 8000mAh Sony type batteries wasn't from a German company but from a company in Hong-Kong. Their e-mail is batterykings@yahoo.com.hk. The largest available from the Geman company is 6600mAh. I bought 2 8000mAh off Battery Kings @ 45 Aus Dollars each which included the shipping. I have used them extensively from the end of May and they have performed faultlessly. The part number is: NP-F970 Battery 8000mAh. The UK e-Bay number was 330562932355. Malcolm Davies.A.m.p.s.
