Matthias Richter Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 so I have my Fusion, IFB100 and TRXs I can adjust the gain from the Fusion on the TRXs I can not get the TRXs into slaved transport mode - doing a replay of a take transport slaved mode is ON, Zaxnet is on what does the TC out should be? Gen or Disk? User bits are "Date" so no doubling here. If I take "Disk" the TRXs receive the TC matching the playback but stay in "Rec" but If I take "Disk" the TRXs don´t receive any TC when the Fusion is in Stop - and no adjustment is possible. If I take "Gen" the TRXs always receive the Generator-TC (Free-Run) and don´t react to the play -stop on the Fusion. But I can adjust the gain. On the "Cue page" is "wireless audition" which seems to have no effect whatsoever Billy - maybe you could share some informations since you have it up and running? Thanks, Matthias
greg sextro Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Make sure you have the latest software on everything, including your ifb -greg-
Matthias Richter Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 is updating the IFB100 the same process as with the TRX? And does the IFB100 need an installed card to perform? Matthias
Jeff Wexler Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Using an SD card in the IFB is only for updating --- it does not need to be in the slot for normal operation.

Gen or Disk? User bits are "Date" so no doubling here. Don't think it matters. But mine is set for Gen. My tc is set for constant run. I do NOT us remote control to turn the radio recording on and off following the Deva/Fusion record button. I only use it for playback from the radios either from the previous take or from a time code point I set. My gear is on set so I can't run through all the settings, I can only go by memory. If I take "Disk" the TRXs receive the TC matching the playback but stay in "Rec" but If I take "Disk" the TRXs don´t receive any TC when the Fusion is in Stop - and no adjustment is possible. It seems like a function is set incorrectly somewhere. Have you gone through the extended menu on the xtrs (power up with the menu button depressed)? When I'm on set tomorrow I'll go through all the settings on the radios, the Deva and the ifb xtr. Make sure you have the latest software installed in everything (including the ifb) so we are looking at the same menus. Thanks, Matthias
bigmaho Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Yes, assuming you have a later ifb with the sd card slot on top. The first few ifb xtrs did NOT have an accessible sd card slot. THe updating procedure is the same. Install the card with the power off, hold the up and down arrows and plug in the power. The ifb does not need a card installed to work it's magic. Billy is updating the IFB100 the same process as with the TRX? And does the IFB100 need an installed card to perform? Matthias
Matthias Richter Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 Billy & Greg - updating solved it!! Now I can replay a take and adjust the gain. Very nice. Are you using the lemo TC In/Out on the Deva for IFB (Out) and external jam (In) at the same time? Right now I have just two different cables and have started my recent shoot using a LockIt to be in sync with the Alexa. Bit afraid to just drop the Lockit and rely on the Fusions TC-section (see my other thread). If only the TRX700 (plugOn) would have the IFB board too ... Thank you! Matthias
greg sextro Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 The IFB should be able to jam. if you need to feed it to an external device like a lockit or a slate, you can always just pull the cord and jam the new device. That said, i'm pretty sure you can set the IFB to feed the TC out of the "TC out" as well. In this way, the IFB is really just a daisy chain. -greg- I have not ventured yet into pulling TC from an alt source and keeping everything else in line...
bigmaho Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Did a Sony show (The Big C) which uses an auto sync process. We experimented with using the ERX as the time code source for the cameras. At first it didn't work because early software versions of the ERX would update the time code every 2 minutes or so causing a one frame jump. Now they auto jam sync multiple times per second. We did the 2nd season of the show using the ERX instead of the external lockit boxes. Never had a problem. Billy & Greg - updating solved it!! Now I can replay a take and adjust the gain. Very nice. Matthias Richter Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 I don´t need the IFB100 to feed the LockIt but the Fusion´s TC-In to take the LockIt-TC. Basically I need a Y-cable with two Lemo-connectors: one is Fusion-TC in, the other is Fusion-TC out. ERX would be the next (logical) step. Matthias
Matthias Richter Posted September 13, 2011 Author Report Posted September 13, 2011 had a very quiet scene today and was listening to a new noise in my setup. It´s been the ifb100 that introduces a "fieping" noise through the powering network. I have moved it around and away - no change. I then have powered it of a NP1 and it was clean again. How can I use the ifb100 just like all the other pieces? Any filtering ideas? Have you experienced something similar? Matthias
Derek H Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 What do you mean by "fieping" noise? Like a high pitched whine? One idea: you could try making up a filtering power cable using a capacitor as recommended in the original Zaxcom stereoline transmitter manual. (3300 uF I think) worked for me with that transmitter
Cloud Wang Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 maybe also try to move IFB's antenna away from your headphone cable
Matthias Richter Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 yes like a high pitched whine. The IFB antenna has no effect here. I have moved the unit 2m away from my cart and the noise didn´t change at all. Will try the filtering power cable. Good hint.
efksound Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Hi Matthias I'm having exactly the same problem you are describing in your first post, Could you explain what you did to solve the issue ? Have the lastest firmware on Fusion , IFB100 and TRX900LA Thanks
Zack Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Yup, try wrapping the power cable of the ifb100 through a ferrite filter a few times. Hopefully that does the trick.
efksound Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Hi Zack Thanks but the issue I'm having is the first one Matthias posted when using Zaxnet on the Fusion + IFB100 and trying to get the TRX in play mode, I can put the TRX into record and control gain but : On the "Cue page" the "wireless audition" function seems to have no effect whatsoever....
Matthias Richter Posted February 23, 2013 Author Report Posted February 23, 2013 For me it was just updating the IFB100 that did the trick. There was a shoot were one TRX wouldnt respond to the PB commands properly. I couldnt figuer out for what reason ...
Cloud Wang Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 also try that : cause the IFB100 takes two input via TA5, but it only transmit a mono signal, i recall there is a setting in the IFB100 that make it only broadcast L or R ch, so only feed it one channel signal and only let it broadcast one ch.
efksound Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 OK thanks for the tips, Matthias & Cloud, the main issue is they don't seem to get into play mode when pressing "wireless audition" , if I can get them to do that first, then my next concern will be If I can get the audio back or not from the TRX. Will try again when i find more time. Also another funny thing is when controlling the gain settings via the virtual faders on the Fusion I can only go from 0 to 32db max gain on the TRX900LA (and they go up to 52db). Also what I find strange is that the "G" display on the TRXs is always flashing even if you are not changing gain. When using them with my Nomad the "G" only is displayed when you change gain using zaxnet
Boomboom Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 That 32 vs 52 gain reminds me of when they changed the main board in one of my txs; a TRX900aa I had did go up to 32 and when they changed the circuit board ( for unexplainable shutdowns ) it then went up to something like what you say ( I'd have to check again if it's up to 52). That tells me maybe your Fusion is still working in this former scheme as opposed to your more recent LA mics. If somebody's asking himself if this TRX900aa board can be swapped for a 125mW board now ( while being there) ; no it can't.
efksound Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 Probably the Fusion firmware needs to get updated to reflect the new available hardware. The problem is that Nomad (and soon Maxx) is Zaxcom's main priority now, so there is probably little time left to update or correct small bugs for their "older" product line

Aaaw, nevermind... No more comments from now ... Lol
efksound Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Just reviving this old thread, for others users who might encounter this same problem and have everything setup as it should have the latest firmware on all their equipment and they are still struggling to make the zaxnet wireless audition work. The problem probably is in the prerecord feature on the Fusion. Change prerecord to 0 and playback should work. Another solution is in the CUE screen, toggle the CUE to display "ZaxnetUB set", pressing TC/Userbits displays what appears to be the start timecode of the segment displayed as, for example, "TC? 12:55:58:03" to enter manually (using keypad and enter key) a timecode that is later than the one displayed, for example if you have a 5 sec prerecord : 12:56:04:00 and then hit "wireless audition", transmitters should automatically enter in play mode.
