ProSound Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I just loaded up my new Petrol 601 with my 3 211 block 27 units and my 788T and I am greeted by some serve RF spray. The Scan with 788T powered on is same whether it is powered from common power source (BDS Box) or the 788T is powered from internal battery all 3 of my 211 block 27 units show similar scans as well. I didn't think the 788T had any RF spray and hadn't experienced any with same set up in my larger Petrol PEGZ-2 bag Any thoughts? Quote
thebrengun Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I've experienced some less significant spray on Block 26 SRa and 411a in the PS601 bag from Petrol. I seem to recall another thread around here about RF spray from the 788T. Quote
JDirckze Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Hey Whitney, Do you have the SSD version? I'm using a 788T SSD on the show I'm on, but since talent are never more than 5 meters from me I haven't noticed any problems with reduced range due to RF spray. I'm using a larger bag, can't remember which model but I'll do some scans and post the results in a couple days... Quote
r.paterson Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 hi plug into the ta3's and do a scan or as a quick test do a scan without any receiver plugged into the 788t. there is a lot more rf spray on the xlr's inputs than on the ta3's i put emc xlr's on all xlr inputs and rf filter clamp chokes on all ta'3's cables input and outputs, most of the spray is on the right hand side of 788t if i recall and dont have anything plugged into the firewire port when you scan...good luck richard Quote

soundslikejustin Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 definitely plug your receivers in the ta3's... the xlr inputs have a lot more rf spray.. Why is that? I don't have a 788T, so I can't help you at all - but I find that interesting....? Quote
TimPitot Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I have recently noticed this too. In a PS602, all rx going in to TA3 inputs, all outputs in use. Non-SSD 788T. Radios in 606 - 630MHz approx. RF scan with 788 turned off: Off by timpitot, on Flickr RF scan with 788 turned on: On by timpitot, on Flickr Where are you sourcing these RF chokes? I might have to try a few. Someone else I was speaking to mentioned that a lot of RF comes out of the outputs and especially the firewire port if its in use (I never use it) Quote
VM Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I just loaded up my new Petrol 601 Do you mean the RF troubles are arrived with this bag ? I never notice any RF trouble with 788+CL8 (just with my ears, i don't have any RF scan tool). I'm using audio ltd 2020 and 2040 radio mics, Senn G3 and 5212. Quote
ProSound Posted November 1, 2011 Author Report Posted November 1, 2011 Spray became much more evident in the smaller bag. I am going to move thing around some more in the bag and see if I can help it out Quote
r.paterson Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 hello Tim i have used these on thin lav type cable and i use 9mm on thicker cable best if you can make a loop thru the filter if that makes sense.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10P-TDK-5mm-Clip-EMI-RFI-Filter-Snap-Around-Ferrite-/330482610449?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf24c7111 richard Quote
LarryF Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 788's do have some spray. Much better than 744t but not perfect. Distance is the easy solution. Various cable bypasses can help but even with no cables plugged in (perfect bypassing) there is still some radiation from the case itself. Best, Larry F [snip] I didn't think the 788T had any RF spray [snip] Quote
Morantzsound Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I have a Petrol bag and when I did move my receivers into the bag, I was constantly getting RF hits and very limited range. When moved them outside the bag all was well again. Did scans with the receivers in and out of the bags and big difference . Knew the 744's had some issues but was surprised by how much RF spray I got from the 788. Quote
Matt Mayer Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Whitney, I'd be interested to see a scan with the 788 up, but the CL-8 disconnected. Quote
studiomprd Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 " Distance is the easy solution " it is exponential, so every mm helps! Quote
Jack Norflus Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 put emc xlr's on all xlr inputs and rf filter clamp chokes on all ta'3's cables input and outputs, What RF filter chokes did you use? How do you wire it into the TA3? Quote
studiomprd Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 " RF filter chokes " sounds like ferrite around the wire Quote
