Philip Perkins
In my experience, holding the recordings/film etc is an understood mode of protest in the case of payments promised not being made. I've held audio for various reasons, including being asked by grip+electric to do so (since they had nothing to hold). I've also been in situations where the gaffer, convinced that his crew was about to be stiffed, walked into the camera truck and left with a couple of camera bodies. Then there was the local PM intercepting the PA with the canned-out film on their way to the moho and holding that as well. All of these activities succeeded in their intended task: getting production's attention about unfulfilled payment promises. But that possibility is long-gone for the OP now. I hope you are able to get your money but whatever legal means you choose. phil p
taylormadeaudio
Good point Phil, Yeah, it occurred to me as I read my own post, that in the case of the OP, production already has what they want... a lien against the work is really the only recourse here. ~tt

BVS
It could be your retirement fund Mike...what if all the freelance mixers all started billing royalties to their work over the years.....if you are employed as an employee for that show you can't, but as a freelancer with no contract you can...I said this to one producer and he said if that happened he would just dissolve the company and form another...
