soundslikejustin
I think cjh can chime in if we all want to know how the Hobbit was really done. Or Tony Johnson, who's occasionally active here under 'TJ' I think.
soundslikejustin
I wish I was back in pal land.... Never had to ask what frame rate we are shooting. Never had to argue with DPs and producers... I/we get out fair share of productions shooting for overseas - it's great when you get a definitive top-down answer, even if it turns out to be wrong
Rasmus Wedin
This might have been covered here somewhere but no, I can't find it so...... My question is: Are the AES outputs on the Nomad only accesable through the DB-15 connector? Are the XLRs only analouge?

The ability for the XLRs to be analog or digital depending on the user setting. It would be mighty powerful if the Nomad XLR inputs could be selected as analog or digital. soundslikejustin
XLR's are analog or digital on the SD 788T and the rest of the 7-series line. As well as inputs 1 & 6 on the 664, and the XLR and Hirose multipin outputs. It's neat.
Matt Mayer
XLR's are analog or digital on the SD 788T Hate to butt in, but AES inputs and outputs on the 788T are on the DE-15 connector. Early 7 Series could take AES balanced on XLR, as can the 664 on inputs 1/6 and the PIX240i.
pindrop
Ooops! Sorry my mistake I realized after I posted. It's just that faders, metering, pfl's, and peak indication, all switch without user intervention between analog and digital on the 788T. Kind of weird as Zaxcom is pushing this as the "all digital recording platform", to "hide" them like that. Much prefer it the way the 552 and 664 does it. But Im sure there's some technical reason for it.
RadoStefanov
What is the problem with dB15? It is a very small 16 channel connector. Easy to assemble. Imho better then 8 xlrs.
studiomprd
" On 25 frames/second video, the counter of the time goes up to 25 frames, then it starts again at 0. " actually, you have that incorrect, too... on 25 FPS EBU TC, it counts the frames from 00-24, there is no frame #25!
Rasmus Wedin
What is the problem with dB15? It is a very small 16 channel connector. Easy to assemble. Imho better then 8 xlrs. If the xlrs are switchable you dont need 8 of them. Simply dual functionality on the 4 outs already existing.
RadoStefanov
And 4 more for the ins... If the xlrs are switchable you dont need 8 of them. Simply dual functionality on the 4 outs already existing.
PTA
And 4 more for the ins... If they 'were' switchable, each already existing XLR input would accept 2 channels for a total of 12, not counting the returns on the side which could therotically accpet 8 more digital ins on the ta5s. same with the outs, each already existing xlr would out put 2 channels and 4 channels for the TA5's. Again, these are just what the connectors are capable of, I don't know how the actual guts on the inside would change. This is how it works on the 552, select digital instead of analog in the menu and the Left XLR will output both L&R digital audio instead of just L analog audio. and the selection of what is outputed can also be modified. Rasmus Wedin
And 4 more for the ins... Well, my original question was actually only about the digital outputs.
Wandering Ear
I'm with rado, the db15 is a great way to do it. I always have 4 digital ins, and 4 analog connected. If I was using the AES outs for something like a hop transmitter, I wouldn't want to eat up an xlr for that, and have to plug, un plug, and switch every time I want to use my xlrs. http://wanderingear.net
dominiquegreffard
Sorry if it s been discussed before but is the keyboard compatibility available on current nomad software? And how about automix function? Thanks!

I put my CF cards in and hit the on switch but it stops at the 'loading saved settings' line of text. What do I need to do? Sorry for the 'green' question but I cant find the answer anywhere. Try holding the STOP key while booting to reset your settings to factory defaults. If that does hot help, you could send me a short video from your cell phone to howard att zaxcom etc.... -howy
