Hi,

I have just received delivery of my Nomad 12, fresh out of the box and running latest firmware v7.26.

it appears that i have noise on analogue ins 3,4,5. I have nothing connected to these inputs but when PFL'ing them i can hear a hiss, and sometimes the noise sounds like I'm hearing the timecode?

I'm new to field mixers, has anyone else experienced these anomalies before?

Also whilst setting up and testing randomly input 6 would have a line struck through it as if the compressor had triggered and gone to infinity and beyond, a power cycle reset each time and things appeared to back to normal.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Untreminated inputs will sound noisy. Connect something to the input and listen.

I had the same thought, tried with the inputs terminated this morning and still the same noise, sounds like digital distortion to me, almost as if you can hear the processes at work. Just thought i would ask as my local dealer is 900k's away i don't really want the hassle of a send back to base solution if its just something silly in a setting.

Thanks for the replies

Phil

While we can all sprculate your best bet is to contact zaxcom 24 hour tech support at support@zaxcom.com

well i am only looking for previous experience and advise, Nothing wrong with speculating to accumulate. maybe there's a gotcha in the software I'm unaware of and someone may have come across this before?

Believe me, after just investing around 40k on gear i certainly will be contacting the dealer/manufacturer for a "please explain"

As a bit of an update, after a couple of resets and formatting the cards the noise disappeared, but eventually came back. Also it seems that the auto fader function has randomly stopped working on a couple of inputs (1+2)

I have been in contact with the manufacture who are investigating and i updated with the fresh news of more problems today. At no point was i expecting anyone here to "fix" my problems i just wanted to know from users if you've experienced similar gremlins. It was one of my biggest fears investing in software based equipment, so its a little disappointing.

The actual build quality, feel, functionality design is great, just not so much for its reliability out of the box, as rado said, its going to be a long trip for the unit if its something major.

hopefully its something and nothing, and preferably a bit of user based finger trouble, id much prefer it to be something silly that I'm doing rather than an unreliable unit.

+1

what was the culprit?

Mainly myself!

i found getting my head around the settings and matrix quite a step learning curve, by not having a set schematic to follow and hard wired switches which is really my preferred way of going about things, this made it more of a challenge to invent the schematic in my head then transfer it to the nomad and it had me in a bit of a pickle.

The guys at zaxcom were extremely helpful and patient and guided me in the right direction. Since then all appears well, i guess i went into panic mode after dropping the cash.

This scenario was one of my biggest fears when i was trying to decide which way to go with my set up, and i chose this route because i wanted to learn a new way of doing things, and its certainly been that.

Yeah I remember that feeling of, holy fuck what have I done, when I first got my Nomad. Once you get your head around the basics it becomes second nature. Pblyth feel free to PM me if you have further teething problems and I can I've you my contact details, I'm Sydney based so at least in the same time zone. I have spent a few hours sitting down helping a mate through the transition before. Happy to do so again. There are also a bunch of us Zax users on the Australian soundie FB page.

My main gripe with nomad is record routing. I like thst it's quick to assign (once the card tracks have been assigned). That's the cool thing

The problem is that you can't quickly confirm you have everything routed correctly. On the maxx u can since the record routing tells u which channels and if they are pre or post.

Would be nice if nomads record routing had in brackets which tracks r being recorded to each card track.

To confirm. You have to firstly know which card tracks are assigned to which inputs. And pre or post. To confirm you have everything done correctly. You have to go to your card tracks and menu through the different pages. Exit. Go to the next set of card tracks. Exit. And the next. That's aboit 12 pages of I'm not mistaken to confirm card track routing. Then go back to the menu. Record routing and assign from there.

This is simple. And fine. But it's cumbersome to confirm quickly what and how it's being recorded. Compared to maxx

I think a brackets (d3 p). Could be added. Digital 3 pre fader. Or. (Op4). (A6 x). Analog six post fader.

So it's not a game of hops scotch to do a safety confirm.

Thanks Nate C, I suppose luckily non of what occurred cost me any bookings or money so its mainly my pride that took the beating, Not really a big FB user so ii hadn't really thought of looking there for help and inspiration but I will check it out.

Johnpaul, I did find the vids very useful but what got me second guessing myself is that the firmware on the vids is a little older than what my nomad came with so it wasn't a literal follow and repeat, very close but as I said once things start to wrong and you don't achieve the desired result it had me spinning in circles and wondering which step or menu I missed.

Thanks to those who helped :)

Is there a setting which I've missed which will allow the ERX to be usable when the Nomad is in playback mode? I had a logger struggling to keep up with a fast talking contributor and I had to hand over my headphones between interviews when playing back.
