Panasonic HPX2700 audio connections

Recommended Posts

I have to work with the HPX2700 Panasonic

I want to use the front mic input, which is a 5 pins female XLR

Am I right to assume pin 1 is ground, 2 is hot Left, 3 return Left, 4 hot Right and 5 return Right ?

I also want to monitor with the rear 5 pins male XLR

Is this the same than above ? (1 ground, 2 hot L, 3 ret L, 4 hot R, 5 ret R)

It should be, but how knows... I don't find the info on the manual, and I don't have the camera at hand.

I understand this front mic input is intended for a stereo mic, but I want to use a mono camera mic on one track, and a receiver on the other, so I'm ready to make a small pigtail to accomodate my needs. Is the phantom power available only on the two inputs at the same time, or is it possible to have phantom only on one input ?

Thanks

This in an effort avoid running short XLR from cam mount mic to back of cam? Having run a lot of of cam myself, I wouldn't view a short XLR, maybe velcroed/dressed to cam handle en route to back of cam jacks as a big interference to the operator.

Took a look at a brochure and saw input switches on PDF page 12

That input seems designed for a stereo shotgun. I would wonder what signal might get passed along (buzz?) with a mono shotgun, not occupying both channels..assuming that's what your planning on.

Trew Audio made a couple cables for me with XLR3F on one end and XLR5M on the other for use with the HPX2700. It allowed me to place an MKH416 on the camera plugging into the front input as a mono mic input. That input can be assigned to either channel 1 or 2 on the camera tracks. It works great and I get a clean signal w/o any buzzing.

Looks like you have a soundie here with insight on that cam: http://www.farroutpr.../equipment.html

But really..have to wonder if it's worth a specialized cable up front.

For the 5 pin monitoring, I used a cable from an AT825 stereo mic for a similar Panny camera. It was pretty long and sturdy..maybe cheaper than a custom.

I should have add that :

- for the type of work involved, it makes great sense to have a camera mic assigned to its own track at anytime, *and* a receiver feeding discreetly another track, *and* at the same time the rear inputs receiving a mixer signal

- I make my own cable myself, always did, so what I'm basically asking is confirmation that Panasonic is using the "standard" stereo wiring (1=grd, 2=L+, 3=L-, 4=R+, 5=R-), as it should

- and maybe if someone encountered some special behaviour on those input and output that he would like to share
