  1. hey everyone thanks very much for the input - john your advice about learning to listen is great im much more a sound person than visual - i mean, i really can walk around with my eyes shut to my environment at times but i ll immediately pick up on a cool sound in a crowd of other sounds - i have an edirol r-09 so i ll do some of the stuff you suggested for sure. also thanks for your advice vin - watching any form of tv and cinema is something that i have avoided for many years - so sitting and watching films etc is something i gotta admit i find will be hard to do - but i guess i will focusing on how things sound and will find the interest there cheers bzzb
  2. hey guys thanks for the quick replies - i will of course be browsing this forum to read threads etc jeff and oldschool - your advice of using ears and eyes, figuring out things for yourself and not flooding people with questions sits very well with me. i spent 5 months with Yolngu people on an aboriginal land area in NE Arnhem Land in Australia and this is very much their cultural approach and how their young people learn - you observe, take advice when it is offered and dont ask too many questions. studiomprd - thanks for the nice welcome hope what ableton knowledge i have can contribute somewhere on the forum one day kveða buzby
  3. hi everyone i was advised to post on this forum by a friend of mine - he says you're a friendly and helpful bunch of people in a nutshell - i have been offered a chance to be a recording assistant to a friend of mine in Iceland who is an experienced sound engineer, studio and field recording. he has offered to teach me field recording techniques on tv sets and also out in the field .. i will be learning how to work with a cantar x and my first paid work will be later in the year as an assistant - 22 days on a tv set using mainly lavalier mics i have experience making music with ableton live, making electronic music mostly and also recorded a choir and cello for a different music project i have been looking up info on lav mics, boom mics etc and have downloaded the cantar x user manual so i can get a bit of a heads up before i go and start learning with him so if anyone can give me advice of useful tutorials videos, written material, forums, books, magazines or personal advice on anything for a complete beginner in these fields then i would really appreciate it. thanks in advance buzby
