it s a bit of a drag to name everything letter by letter as of now. I wish there could be a better way for this.. Like a keyboard, or even better a app. Hope it s gonna get this way eventually.
Is the automix functional from latest firmware version now?
Is Zaxcom planning a software for metadata editing like wave agent in the near future?

" the point with the usb connection? "
as described : thumb drive
" any possible trick "
adapter cable
Thumb drive? Googled it, it's like a pen drive, right? As any drive it should mount on my computer... that's not the case so far. Nomad won't mount, tried PC and Mac.
The second question was pretty silly... sorry fot that
-
Another question: my breakaway cable only has a mini-jack return. Since all the returns in the nomad unit are TA-5, I'm completely lost in this regard or is there any possible trick to perform?
-
You need a cf card reader.
If we can't mount nomad as an external drive to import material, what's the point with the usb connection?
-
Hi,
I've just got my nomad. Really enjoyed the possibility of doing fine adjustements on the compressor and its transparency as well. Hence my question. How many of you, if any, use compression when recording, not only as a way of avoiding distortion (limiting) but to make dialog sound bigger and fuller?

My stereo setup consists of three pairs of oktavas microphones (cardio, hyper and omni) and a rycote stereo. You couldn't get more versatile within this price range. I can record X/Y, ORTF, NOS, OCT (with an extra mk012 amplifier)... I really love it! The rycote stereo bar can be a little cumbersome (i have the 70 cm one), so I have another small stereo bar from oktava (not so great but it can do the job and it costs almost nothing).

I've recently saw a tv show where the host used two lavaliers. I'm assuming that reason for this is having a backup microphone, right? Anyone used to this procedure?

Doing your own intermod calculation allows you much greater flexability than being stuck with only the factory intermod charts. Also FreqFinder allows you to do intermod on multiple brands wireless, which is something I do frequently. It's one tool in many to help reduce the number of problems that can arrise when using radios.
Got it!

Hi,
I'm sure this is just a demonstration of my ignorance but this is a great place to learn. My question is: why would you need such an app having the scan mode in your wireless system and the factory preseted frequence groups to avoid intermodulation?

Thanks for the info Winter and Chris!
Winter, I've looked it up and couldn't find the neutrik special connector for sale. Looked at CoffeySound and Gotham.

Hi everyone,
I've just tried my new oktava's mk 012 in the shoot of a documentary. Although I was very pleased with the sound sometimes I had problems with rf interference on the mic. Anyone has already experienced this with oktavas? Is there a workaround solution for this. I've read somewhere else that ferrite beads attached to the cable could be a solution.

coffey are very cool people.
This is what I got in the mail today...
"Coffey Sound: Your order #XXXX has been completed.
Estimated delivery
Feb 10, 2012 by 3:00 PM
"
Thank you Coffey
Maybe things have improved real quick. Otherwise you're just lucky. I've received this message from Coffey Sound three days ago: "We are still waiting for them to send our first shipment. They had been waiting on a part which they got last week, but then the main installation tech was out and they haven't been able to confirm a shipping date yet. We hope to have them in stock in the next two weeks based on this information, but they have not confirmed any shipments yet."
It's weird how many people prompted to defend Zaxcom as if this thread was created as a defamatory action. For those who are not part of the circle it is really difficult to understand how a delay of six months of delivery is just a proof of excellence having nothing to do with customer service. As Jason pointed out the problem is not even waiting six months but not knowing at all how long of a wait. MISINFORMATION as he stated.
If similars problems have happened before with other companies they were stil treated like problems, exceptions. If you keep behaving like that you contribute to turn these exceptions into the rule.
-
Hmm interesting. I made a $500 deposit @ Gotham for my Nomad 8. Estimated delivery is 3 months but Chase says to expect it to be longer (6 months?) Since there is such a long wait, I had to go and buy a SD mixer/recorder set up to hold me up until then.
I'm trying no to do the same, specially because I can afford only one mixer/recorder - therefore SD or Nomad and that is it.
The Nomad was the jewel of the crown in the production sound kit I was setting up (got everything already except for it). But SIX MONTHS (!!!) is beyond reasonable, really! I've got to start working and this waiting is really a huge issue for me.

Got this answer today from Coffey Sound: "Hello,
There is still a back-order of about 2-3 months for these units."
-
you get nothing until you reverse the phase.
That would be the first thing I'd try.
Sorry my ignorance but this is a wonderful place to learn things. How changing polarity would solve this problem? What's the logic behind it?
-
Nomad All the way
If you can get one in near future of course...

Can Glenn confirm (or deny) that the shipping delay is due to a manufacturing "issue" with the new circuit boards?
I'm not aware of any problem like that but since Glenn participates actively in this forum any statement from him would be much appreciated.
-
I just wish there was some sort of real estimate they could give. I was first told 3-4 weeks then after that "within the next two weeks" and now "When it gets here". Frustrating.
Couldn't agree more.
-
3 months. Nothing yet. On trew's list.
I've ordered mine not even 3 weeks ago. Losing hope here...
-
Coffey Sound tells that there is no prevision of new Nomad units and that they are still in backorder. How long have you waited? For how long I should expect to wait?

+6 for MC012 (since I own 6). My fave bang-for-buck mic ever, esp if you buy used. I use them all the time for music recording--not a Schoeps, but Schoeps-like and damn close. Not great on a boom (but usable), but otherwise fab. Another sleeper: excellent mic--very cheap used: Shure KSM109.

I've just got my box of chocolates from oktava with three pairs of capsules (hyper, cardio, omni) and two preamps witn -10 db pads. I've also bought a 70 cm rycote stereo bar. Except for M/S I can do a whole lot of stereo setups with these. The best bang for the buck in terms of versatility. Here's a link to the kit from oktava on their website: http://www.oktava-shop.com/view_prod.php?id=10. If you're in Europe, I bought it at thomann.de: great price and customer service.

i have the rycote extended hot shoe mount thingy. works as it should..
Thank you for answering,Michael. And how do you mount two? One on top of another?
-
Honestly I don't remember where the piece of metal came from. I think it was some kind of drawer piece I saw at Lowes. I pinched off one side so it only slides in from one side then just make sure to check that it's still secure every now and then. I used the rig 2 weekends ago on a shoot in the Gulf of Mexico and still going strong. Just gets you a bit nervous with all your gear exposed to salt water..
Really, well done!
But since I guess that you won't be manufacturing those, I'll have to go with rycote. Anyone who has this bracket that would be willing to give some feedback on it?

I've looked for straddle bags also but the overall impression was that they're huge for a small receiver like the g3. But, then, maybe it's just an impression.
Turn your Senn G2/G3 into IFB

At least for your client's IFB, in order to keep them away from the same connection problem, you could try something like this, a dual mono earbud: http://www.scansound.com/index.php/dual-ear-mono-earbud-earphones.html
