I'm looking forward to your advice here. I've utilized the convenient auxiliary MCX antenna outputs from the Sound Devices SL-2 for distributing my antenna signal to a third receiver. When I don't need a third receiver, it would be nice if I could leave those two MCX-to-SMA cables connected to the SL-2 and the SMA ends unconnected. If I leave them connected to the SL-2 and not connected to a receiver, am I creating RF issues by doing so? If so, do I have to disconnect them, or could I terminate them somehow? Thanks all.

I’ve pulled out my old RØDE blimp to test something out (an oddball, quite heavy copper body Fostex shotgun mic); however the rubber bands that make up the suspension are getting a little saggy. Are these a specialised item or something I might be able to pick up by the bag at a hardware store if I know what to ask for? Also, I think the original RØDE blimp was a re-imagined Rycote model; if so, are the parts interchangeable?

Hi all - I have the new Deity Theos wireless kit and generally find it to be an improvement in every way over my old Sennheiser G3 units. However when I use a DPA 4061 there is a faint but constant ticking sound, in rhythm like a heartbeat. The unit works fine w/2 other mics (Sennheiser MKE2 and Countryman B3) and then the DPA works fine with the Sennheiser wireless. Has anyone encountered this problem? I'm thinking it might be a power issue, but I have the Deity set to provide 5 volts, which DPA says is the minimum required. I can hear the pulsing when I plug headphones directly into the transmitter so it's not being introduced later in the signal chain.

New show wants us to use all rechargeable batteries, and I’m just wondering which AA people like for their transmitters. They are recommending one of these three, and I am wondering which is the best: Sanyo Eneloop 1900 mAH Powerex 2700mAH Ansmann NiMH 2850 mAH Obviously the Ansmann ones look the best, but are they? The last time I messed with these was about 12 years ago, and they lasted about two hours. Thanks! Dan (Apologies if someone has already talked about this I am a terrible searcher!)

The U.S. list prices of Schoeps mics have just gone up significantly. For example, a KMIT shotgun capsule has just gone from $1575 to $1869, an increase of $294.* I have not seen any statement from Schoeps, or its US/Canada distributor Redding Audio, about the reason for these increases. The increases appear to be much higher than what Redding would be paying in tariffs on new imports. As I understand it, the current tariff, until July 9th, is equal to 10% of the price that Redding would pay Schoeps for a newly imported mic. Two days ago, the US Court of International Trade held that the 10% tariff is illegal. The Court’s decision was unanimous. It…

So, after a year or so since the initial announcement, it seems this device is now available in shops somewhere below €500. Back in 2024, they advertised AES42 support, but today there seems to be no word about any digital input any more. AES42 is actually the main feature I'd be interested in. Deity also has an XLR5 input module that is similar to Zaxcoms TRX743 cones to support MS mics. (I suppose, that would suggest that the device can record though not transmit two tracks.) Maybe @Vincent R. or @Andrew From Deity could chime in if AES42 (or AES3) support is on board, is coming or is completely cancelled. If so, I'd highly be curious if the D4RX mentioned in the fo…

I have a Rycote MKH 8050 mount. In this mount, the 8050 is quite sensitive to handling noise. Most people use Cinela for this reason. But I really like the new Radius MiniAlto. I'm not really in a position to throw money away :), but if the Radius brings a major improvement in handling noise, I'd be happy to switch. Does anyone have experience with the Rycote and the Radius MiniAlto, is it better? Thanks

Hello, I hope this is an appropriate post. I'm doing some research for a project and I'm trying to identify the make and model of a sound (mixing?) board that appears in a 1967 episode of the original Mission: Impossible television series. The episode is entitled "The Train," and the board was used to combine/select the outputs from a bank of reel-to-reel tape recorders (though it was just a TV show). I've attached a picture of it from a screencap. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks very much! Dave

Hello, Here is my audio configuration: 6xA20 mini, 2xA10Tx, 2xA10Rx and 2xA20Rx with Cantar X3, octopack and filtered antennas. I use this kit since many years and I'm very happy with the sound, but ... my A20 are very often out of order, I would say at least one transmitter fails during every movie shoot, sometimes RF sometimes power supply, board or other things .... I must say I am someone who is very careful with my equipment; I take great care of it. Most of the time my A20 run in "low" or "normal" mode and are strapped to the ankle. SONY NP-BX1 batteries. Many years ago I used Wisycom and I never had a problem with their Tx What are yo…

Has anybody laid hands on the fader controller from VDB? The FCS 8 and FCS12 claim to be well-built, so it seems like an interesting entry into this arena. Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone has hands-on experience with the "Soft" vs "Firm" faders that are available. I have read all the documentation I can find, but fader feel is such a subjective tactile experience, I don't really want to place an order based on the literature. Sometime soon, I will likely contact VDB directly (tip of the HAT). I'll report back if I learn useful info. Thanks, Brian

First product I’ve seen using the new WMAS technology. Can’t wait to see what others do with this tech, only a matter of time before us bag mixers get something small enough to use.

Hi everyone. Have any of you developed a 3D part or a system to be able to use the A20 TX as a boom transmitter? The original Sound Devices board is not that practical for me; what solutions have you found here? 🥸

Hello all :-) I have an upcoming shoot that will take place at the beach near the sea. The director probably wants it close to the water, the actors will go into the water at the end (we will probably cut and get rid of wires for that shot). I am wondering which microphones would be best to achieve the smoothest consistent background. I have Kmr81 mics, MK41, RSM 191, 416, and Cos11 and 4060 lavs. I never shot near a sea before, just recorded the ambiences and feel the sea ambience is very hard to get right... Obviously, I will try to steer the location as far from the water if not visible in the shot as possible. What are your tho…

Not that I'd ever attempt such a thing... I blinked and the past five years flew by. I'm about to jump on a plane and shoot a low-profile feature in Europe. Last time I did this was in Australia, and setting up cameras / getting the boom out wasn't as big a deal in the wide-open outback space - but this time we'll be "stealing" a few scenes in some busier locations and I'd like as little a footprint as possible. Feels like technology has advanced about twenty years in the past five - how would you approach this type of shoot? Curious what everyone's go to would be. --Chad

Hello All, I've got a sound problem that's stumping, not surprising considering I'm a camera guy. I've got a Sony UTX-B40 body pack that has started acting up on me. Whenever a microphone is plugged it sends constant static. With no mic it's totally silent. Here's a list of all the things I've tried without fixing the issue. Changed the mic out for a COS-11D with the Sony TRS. RF setting set to low. Wide range of different channels. Low gain, Auto gain, turned the attenuator all the way up. Linked to different RXs. Swapped out the battery pack. Changed battery type settings. Changed compander setting on TX and RX. At this point I'm at t…

Hey guys, Here's a new version of my currently Windows-only 788T control software. It can control most functions of a 788T remotely via USB. This is meant to be a replacement from here on out for Goose, my previous version. This should sort out a lot of GUI/scaling issues people were having. I re-wrote the frontend in .NET MAUI. It looks better and should scale appropriately across different screen sizes now. Download link and screenshots at the end of this post. Changes from last version: - Better UI - Persistent user settings for storing preferred COM port & temperature units. (The gear button by the power button) …

3 weeks ago I sent an MKH 8060 (purchased in 03/2012) to Sennheiser for repair via my dealer with the following symptoms: intermittent "high mic noise with reduced output gain and crackling sounds like static discharge" The microphone had heavy signs of wear, most of the coating had come off. Two rods of the side grille were bent from a handling accident. It was one of my workhorse-gear and was used on numerous productions throughout the years. Last wednesday I got a notice from the dealer that the mic is back, with no other comment but a bill, listing a handling fee of 25€ and the serial number of the replacement mic. I retreived it on friday and I got ba…
