  1. People tried to answer the best they could with what they know. That is what I call human interaction. Now I could have just contacted the manufacturer, BUT that is like asking for directions!
  2. I love Wikipedia. But this Board has more human interaction - at least for now. Thanks for the great response.
  3. Thanks for the responses. Have a great weekend. AB
  4. I think fat32 can now make 4gb files. Maybe I am wrong about that. But the reason I asked in my original post, is that if you are using all 12 tracks, then 4gb would be preferablly to me than 2gb, for my particular use. (not that it is that much work to append the files.) Anyway, I thought this might be a safe topic.
  5. What are they file size limits on these various products. I assume they are all seamless, but what is the maximum size before a new file is created? THANKS, AB
  6. Maybe we all need a wakeup call with a pie in the face as mentioned above. I may be wrong in my prior post about it all being complex. Maybe there is a link to all these problems that is simple. Almost everyone in the U.S. wants something for nothing. We want the easy, lazy way out. That is why we do not have a draft where everyone has to sacrifice. That is why we have a bad economy. (We wanted mortgages we could not afford). That is why we have huge debt (We want a military and social benefits we cannot afford). We want news delivered to us that is entertaining as opposed to informative - so we consume toxic news from all sorts, while letting decent news outlets go down the tubes. Why else would tabloids survive, if there was not a market for junk news. It is the consumer that decides which news organizations survives or die. But ultimately it comes down to a public that let's this all happen because it feeds immediate needs for so-called pleasures. Junk Food, Junk News, Junk Budget, etc. (My own personal issue is with DJs. We do not even appreciate the time and effort live musicians put into their craft. Many restaurants and night time establishments are no longer designed to be able to "listen" to live musicians, but rather support DJs or dead music.) Go to a gas station that sells food. The gas is toxic. What percentage of food in the gas station is actually healthy for anyone? Maybe 2 percent. (the nuts? - and even many of them are in cottonseed oil.) A free society requires individual responsibility to avoid toxic results. But maybe we have been exposed to so many commercials about what we need to be happy, that we have lost our own way as individuals to make healthy decisions. We look at Eqypt and wonder how could individuals not realize that they have power for so long. But when do we turn that magnifying glass onto ourselves. It seems like we have given up on our individual power years ago. Of course, this is all a generalization. Somehow, I think all these problems, including the news issue of the original post, are all interrelated.
  7. Respectfully, you do not have to go far back. While I disagree with the extent of the Bush tax cuts, when they went into place after 911 and after the economy collapsed after 911, the economy boomed back and millions of jobs returned. A major crash occured in 2008. Part of it was because oil prices skyrocketed AND the mortgage industry was corrupt. People were getting into homes they could not afford - as appraisals were not honest, and standards were lowered. Paper was sold from one financial institution to another, until the game of musical chairs was over, and the value of the paper was virtually worthless. When major financial institutions went under, that freaked out a lot of investors and business people, and many began hanging onto their whatever they could. Additionally, corporate taxes and regulations are much more burdensome in the U.S. than some other countries. Are we willing to pay the higher prices for manufacturing in the U.S. Apparently not. And if India and China are moving up with near 3 billion people between them, doesn't it also make sense that something has to give somewhere else? Did the U.S. when it was only 200 million people some years ago, really have a vested right to have the greatest economy in the world when the world had 5 billion or so people in it? Is it really bad that there are more middle class people in India and China? Or did we like it better when more people were starving there? Who is to blame? Republicans? Democrats? How about all of us in the U.S. We live in a free country. Almost all of us got the mail every day with numerous great credit offerings. All the signs were there. As a whole, we refuse to sacrifice for our grandchildren. We are not the greatest generation. Even are wars are fought by proxy fighters. Bring back the draft, and see how fast the demonstrations start up and we are out of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Two KIDS died in my State in the last several weeks in Afghanistan. What did they die for? We are going to leave, and the Taliban will take it over. I feel sorry for the people over there and their families. Sorry for rambling. But hopefully this shows how complex, and not simple, the whole problem is. Best, AB
  8. If Fox News is tabloid, then certainly so is MSNBC. But as I said before, all these organizations add value, even if they are are repugnant. It is part of a free society. It is up to the individual to be skeptical about all news sources and figure out the truth. Otherwise, we are looking at censorship or government control of media - and that is the worse case scenario. At least with Fox News and MSNBC, their bias is obvious. it is the other mainstream networks that are trickier. They have a bias, but it is more hidden, and people believe the news, when in fact it almost never matches up to actual facts if you knew the people or events being reported about. In regard to Jeff's comments about taxing the rich, I do think it will cost jobs. But I do think we should raise the rates on the wealthiest if we are going to cut back on the entitlement programs. Seems only fair. BUT it will cost jobs. Why? Because rich people LOVE all the money they have. If you take some of their money away, then they will lay off people to keep their dollar numbers as high as possible. It is not about what they need, it is about ego and power which is connected to wealth. When you take some of that wealth away, they find a way to make up for it - and is reducing the quantity of employees and/or their pay. If wealthy people cared about employees, why do billionaires have people working for them on lower levels at minimum wage or close to it? Because they love their high numbers. Now the Bush tax cuts on the very wealthy should not have been passed. It gave the wealthy a new higher level that they are use to for their status needs. So cutting back on it, is cutting back on their status, and they will take it out on the least fortunate of us. One way around it is a partial tax credit for new hires. Best, AB
  9. Well, I guess I will thrown in my 2 cents: It is absurd to think that major newspapers are objective. All major news outlets are slanted. And the majority are slanted to the left. I do not think that is due to a great conspiracy. Just take a look at the red and blue areas of the U.S. during elections. A lot of the blue is in dense urban areas and a lot of the red is in rural areas. I wonder how many people that staff large news networks or large newspapers grew up in those dense urban areas verus rural areas? My bet would be that the majority of them are from the blue areas. How often are rural people portrayed as ignorant in the U.S. Yet, how many of us would be able to eat what we do without them? It seems that there are some prejudices that are politically correct these days. I think it is great that Fox News exists. I do not like some of their hosts or stories. I do like to get my news from a variety of sources and then try to weigh it all. I have been on the news enough myself, to know that even when politics are set aside, because of expediency and the desire to make a story attractive, many stories contain errors. In a free country, there should be news sources that we do not like. Best to all, AB
  10. Well - at least it is a scientific response I can understand! I really cannot hear it. I love this Denecke. By the way. it has been 4 hours and 20 minutes on the rechargeable 9 volt battery and still going strong. This is with two Sennheiser 8070 shotguns being powered. Best, AB [\
  11. I have it starts at 8:19 a.m. this morning. I will see how it does. What does this spec mean? Noise floor is under .01 mV AC. Thanks for any help. Best, AB
  12. I hope you are correct. That would be fantastic. Best, AB
  13. I have some lithium 9 volt rechargeables. I will test it with them with a pair of Sennheiser 8070s. I will find out how long it lasts on one battery. If it lasts just 2 hours - it is worth it to me, as I have 4 of those rechargeables. For my non-field stuff - an ac adapter makes a lot of sense. I appreciate your input. Best, AB
  14. I did notify the manufacturer who was very helpful. Since it appears to be fixed now, I am not sending it in. I appreciate your help. In regard to the contact issue, I do not care about the semantics - All I know is I used the DeOxit Spray and the problem appears to have gone away. Best, AB
  15. When the Denecke arrives, I will check it out. If it works well - I will keep it. Otherwise, I will return it. Meanwhile, I opened up the field recorder, sprayed DEoxIT on the contacts - performed the humidity test again (twice - actually), and the problem is gone. So it may have been a bad contact. The reason I did not name the manufacturer of the field recorder, is that this field recorder was used in tough environmental conditions - and I did not want to cast any aspercions to the manufacturer, which has been very kind to me. I understand that the company that makes Deoxit, also makes a sealant to be applied afterward for hard environmental conditions, including salt and humidity, which were in abundance at my particular remote locations. So I will try that as well. Best to all, AB
  16. Thanks. I ordered one "dual" unit this evening. It can serve many purposes for me. I could have easily spent too much, so this was great news. Best, AB
  17. Two channels for only another $15 on this unit; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/406897-REG/Denecke_PS_2_PS_2_Portable_Dual.html Is it as good as the single channel unit? Seems like I might as well have two channels of it. THANKS, AB
  18. Thanks for the suggestion. I want the Phantom power to be as clean as what is in the field recorder and it makes sense to have one (can't have too many backups!) What is special about the Denecke? THANKS VERY MUCH and HAPPY FOURTH! AB
  19. Thanks - that would explain why when I use the Sound Devices USBpre2 as the device supplying the phantom power and mics pres for that matter, with the field recorder set on line input - the problem does not appear. I would rather use the pres on the field recorder,- so I will send it in. Another reason to have duplication in the field whenever possible. The USBpre2 has saved me on at least two occasions. THANKS, AB
  20. I was using battery power ): Here is a sound clip of what happens when I take the unit (not the mics) in the bathroom when the shower was running minutes before. After taking the unit out of the bathroom and resetting the unit, the sound is gone. I am assuming more heat related than humidity related - because when I took it outdoors it was 5 a.m. in colder than normal days (perhaps even in the 40s.) Thanks for all your help. CLIP ATTACHED AS MP3. bad sound on one channel.mp3
  21. UPDATE: THE HOT STEAMY BATHROOM SHOWED IT. I put the unit in the hot steamy bathroom while leaving the phantom power shotguns outside. Sure enough the sound starting occuring in channel one. I switched out the phantom powered shotgun with an Audix D2 dynamic mic (after resetting the unit) - and even with the phantom power on - the Audix D2 mix in that channel would not make that sound. Resetting the unit with the 48v shotgun in the input - the sound was back. So my conclusion - there is something humidity related to created the sound. This time the sound was a little different - instead of high and whiney sounds, it was a lower sound that oscillating - or like perculating in the background. I turned the shower off in the bathroom to listen - so there was not an ambient noise issue. I did not put any of the mics in the bathroom because I was worried about moisture and the diaphrams. But turned out that was not necessary. It is the unit. Thanks for all your help. I think I will post a clip of the sound.
  22. The hot steamy bathroom idea is a good one. I also want to try it with a dynamic mic in that channel to see if it is only a problem when the phantom power is on for that channel. I already swapped cables a couple of times, so I know it is not a cable. I appreciate the time people took to try to help me here. If the bathroom idea does not work, then I will post how it sounds. I know it is not a sound drowned out by other noises at home, because I can put it in a quiet place and it still does not show up. Good people on this forum trying to help others = a great forum.
  23. This is perhaps my strangest post. Whenever I take my field recorder out to a couple of unique locations (bird refuge areas which are sort of swampy), one of the channels (and only the left channel) - gets a whiney sound in the background. - some sort of electrical whiney sound like an oscillating wind in the background. And it is not the microphone. I use a pair of mics, and if I swap mics, it still makes that sound in the left channel. I would send it in for repairs, but here is the problem. When I take the unit and mics home, it does not happen. Channel 1 sounds perfect. Even if I let it running for 24 hours, it just does not happen at home (or even in the car!) So if I send it in for repairs and pay for shipping, they will probably not be able to duplicate this unless the repair folks are willing to take it to a swampy bird refuge somewhere! So can there be an electrical component on one channel that is sensitive to humidity or something? By the way, I have a USBpre2 that I hook up outdoors when this happens and use the field recorders line inputs and the problem is gone (Once again taking away the idea that it has to do with any of the two microphones). And this does not always happen outside - ONLY at bird refuges with lots of birds and bugs! Any thoughts?

    Usbpre2

I have both a mixpre-d and usbpre2 arriving on Friday. I will test both and send back what I do not like. I ordered an outboard USB power unit. I can use it for other things, so I thought I would go for it. Here is the info on it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/766258-REG/ISOUND_DGIPAD_4544_Portable_Power_Max_16000.html Best, AB
