Fake MKH 416?
BogdanMecea posted a topic in EquipmentHi everyone! I just purchased a MKH 416 from BBlist and I have 24h to return it in case something is wrong with the mic. I've tried to do as much research I could about the fake 416's but I'm still not 100% this one is genuine. The only 2 things that don't convince me are: the finish paint is pretty fine (it's hard to feel the texture of the paint), and if I shake the mic a bit I can hear/feel like there are some parts inside that are moving slightly. Can anyone leave their opinions on this based on the photos and the info? UPDATE: I've called Sennheiser and it turns out this mic is legit. And regarding the movement noise coming from the mic, it's because the XLR plug its bit loose. I've tried to tighten the screw that only holds the XLR part but it seems to be already too tight. Sennheiser said they could fix this issues for the price of £210, which I find to be a bit too much.. but I'll probably just sent it to them and end this problem.
Questions About A Rode NTG-3 (From A Newbie)
OmahaAudio posted a topic in EquipmentI cannot afford a MHK416 just yet so a Rode NTG-3 seems to be a decent high(ish) quality alternative (better than a Sennheiser ME66) particularly for outdoor work. Am I correct in thinking this? Can someone recommend a mic, similar in audio quality to the NTG-3, that would be similar to the Sennheiser ME64 (i.e. cardioid or hyper-cardioid, better for boom work indoors)? I figure that some will say "get a Schoeps" or such like but that would be, for the moment, not affordable. I'm trying to build up the gear slowly. Thanks in advance.
Hi All, I was taught to mount mics (a 416 at the time) such that the tip doesn't protrude past the cylindrical section of the basket (where the frontal end cap would attach in the newer generation baskets) in order to achieve maximum wind protection. I never questioned this since but just found myself wanting my MKH60 to protrude an inch further, for convenience. How much difference would this make? Roughly where after the interference tube is the capsule on the 60? Thanks
