  1. I didn't know there was a new switch for the 211. I sent mine in for service recently and the old switch, that was probably the only poor design Lectro ever did, was replaced with an identical one. Should I complain to the person who didn't give me a newer one. What does the new model look like?
  2. Thanks, guys, for thinking about my issue. This was a rental unit and judging by looks of it, it has been working a long time. This happened multiple times over several days, so it's not likely I accidentally pushed the stop button. In fact, it became a routine issue that forced me to have my finger at the ready to hit record a second time. Yes, I was recording to the HD and CF. I don't know how to evaluate the CF card. I confirmed that it ceased recording because the timecode stopped rolling. I never loss power.
  3. Recently I rented a Sound Device 744T. After about a week of use, it developed a strange quirk (unless someone tells me it was user error). About ten seconds into recording it would just stop on its own volition. I quickly hit record again and it would continue just fine for the rest of the session. This happened repeatedly. Any clues as to what's going on? At first I thought it was a heat issue, but that didn't make sense because it would record perfectly after the second hit. Is there a setting somewhere I missed?
  4. Thanks everyone. You guys give good advice. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.
  5. Thanks for the tips. I have products from all of the above and I will get in touch with them. I was wondering if anyone could talk about how the process works, after you tell someone your Great Idea. I'd like to make a little money if possible.
  6. I've got an idea for a mic accessory that requires some expertise in metal work (no electronics involved). I don't know the first thing about inventing and marketing something like this. Have any of you done something like this and could recommend a designer and/or manufacturer? Thanks
  7. So, I'm in the market for a used 744T, and I'm a little shocked that it hasn't dropped in price since the introduction of the Zaxcom and 644 mixer/recorder combos, which seem to be the logical path all mixers will go. (and yes, I'm aware of today's price hike) Why would I want to pay $3K for four channel recording when another $1.5K gets me six AND a mixer? Obviously I am missing something.
  8. I have 2 x 211's and 2 x 195D's. I also have 2 x 210's on loan from a guy who wants to sell them to me ($800 each), but I think I'd rather buy an SRa instead of buying those. My comment about clients was meant as a joke - but nonetheless something I use as rationale to spend more money. As much as my present set up is suiting my needs, I feel the smirk when a cameraman looks at my bag. While I agree with your golf club analogy, perceptions matter, too. I will search this forum to find out what "front end tracking" means.
  9. Thanks, everyone. What a great forum. I mainly do ENG and doc work, and a little (sur)reality. Don't do features, sports or many commercials. Freelancing for 20 years. I have used the cameramen's gear alot, so I haven't invested in a ton of gear over the years, but now, many of them want out of the sound gear business to buy more cameras. My current bag is a nice museum of Lectrosonics that really should be upgraded, but it's a lot of dough for me. But if I buy it, the clients will come, right?
  10. BTW: my name comes from a sound man who said he wrote "tilt down" on his boom mic in response to crabby cameramen.
  11. Hi. I'm new the forum, so my appologies if this has been discussed already. I noticed from the photos of sound bags that many of you use the SRa. I've only thought of them as camera hops, but it really makes sense to use them in a bag as well. Are there any issues I should be aware of before going down this road? I can't figure out why anyone would buy two 411's when one SRa would do the trick, but maybe you have. Thanks, Mark
