I'm on FCPX, but I'm not am editor and just edit my own little projects.  Once I started working on 4K and adding noise reduction, my maxed out retina 15" MBP just took a shit and became super slow to render.  I think that I must invest in one of the eGPU options out there if I keep on working on similar projects.  Blackmagic makes a fanless /noiseless unit with the Vega 54 GPU, which should help immensely with render times for minis and MBPs.  By the way Philip, was discovering a little bit more about Chris Marker and discovered you were on post for one of the docs on him, was it a good doc and worth checking out?

I’ve been using Resolve as an editor for a while now, and while it’s powerful, the rendering can definitely feel slow, especially on older hardware or less optimized setups. It’s great for color grading, but for basic edits, I sometimes feel like it’s overkill if you’re not taking full advantage of its advanced features.

If you’re looking for something lightweight for quick trims or simple edits, you might want to check out tools that are more streamlined. This free video cutter is a handy option: https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/free-video-cutter.html. It’s not a replacement for Resolve, but it can save time for smaller projects.

Sorry I never saw this--yes, "To Chris Marker: An Unsent Letter" (by Emiko Omori) is one of my fave mix jobs.  Not because the mix was so great but because I like Emiko's approach to storytelling so much.  She knew and worked for Marker, and also knew many of his associates and friends quite well.  I felt honored to get to work on it.   https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2555126/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_in_0_q_to%20chris%20marker

I still use Resolve for the simple video edits I do, and I was able to figure out a lot of the color and matteing and etc +audio on my own with just web searches for help.   Free is great when you are cutting low/no budg projects.
