Clay Reeves Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Aloha, I have four almost new Sony MDR 7506 headphones. The coiled cables have developed a sticky material on the cables. the headphones work great and this sticky substance is only on the cables. What is it and has anybody else seen this problem. Thanks in advance Quote
PMC Posted February 26 Report Posted February 26 Sorry. I have two MDR 7506 headphones. One is at least 20 years old. The other is five years old. The coil cables have not developed the issue you describe. My use exposes them to temps of -30°f to 100°f. Is the goo black or clear. If it is clear, have you tried to remove it with Goo-Gone? It the goo is black then you will need to replace the cable. It is deteriorating. There are kits available for this. Quote
Clay Reeves Posted February 27 Author Report Posted February 27 thanks for your reply the substance is clear on a black coiled cable Quote

DHB Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 I've always found that meths (methylated spirit ..should be available from any hardware store or chemist's / pharmacists's) on a sponge or cloth will wipe away stickiness from any of those 'artificial rubber' or sticky plastic coatings (as on old Canon cameras, Sony attachments for consumer DAT devices, 'textured' surface of PortaDATs, and so on). Simple ..and cheap! Quote
