  1. Ha! Actually I find that pretty helpful. It's good to know that you definitely should look elsewhere.
  2. OPS, I need some right-angles made. Willing to chat?
  3. I will take a couple pics when I get the chance.
  4. Ditto. Curious about the wifi. Thanks.
  5. That's the Loon, btw. At least mine.
  6. Thanks Karl. I saw that on Facebook. I'm good with just cutting as needed. It looks like it works great, but in the end won't really save me any time.
  7. Not ideal for travel, though. Besides, moving a stand with a boom on it doesn't take much effort. Heavy lights would be another story.
  8. The base mate is very near 2". The wing, depending on how you measure it, makes it about 3.
  9. I bought the DMM0012 for the 4060. I bought four, actually. They work incredibly well. It comes with a couple of their double-sided round pieces of tape, but I just use 1" Topstick and cut them to fit. Works better than the RM11, in my opinion. Very smooth edges.
  10. I have two stands now. I started with the Matthews Medium Duty Maxi light stand. It is decent, but sort of a compromise in both directions. Since then I picked up the Matthews MERF reversible and absolutely love it for transport. It breaks down to 20", gets up to nearly 7', and with a 5lb Boa Bag hanging at the bottom it's pretty sturdy. As long as I don't need to extend more than about 9' on the boom, it works great. I'll probably sell the Maxi and get something more heavy duty to keep in the car, but I think probably 75-80% of my jobs can be handled by the MERF which fits nicely in my Peli. Maybe I'll end up with a C-Stand after all. It can just live in the trunk of my car.
  11. johnpaul, I'm using a Maxx, not a Nomad.
  12. Thank you to both of you. I'm sure I just need to break it in a little. At the end of the day I needed the longest pole I could get that fit into a particular case. This is the only one that meets that requirement, so if I determine there is an issue, I'll likely send it back for an even replacement with the same pole.
  13. So my Loon came in today. Have to say, I'm not as impressed as I was expecting to be. It just doesn't feel super smooth yet, it weighs as much as my longer aluminum pole, and honestly I was kind-of expecting the nice logo on the Wing as seen here: http://www.loonaudio.com/basemate_detail.php The logo bit doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was those extra little flourishes that got me excited about the overall care that went into making the pole. It's just a bummer to see it missing. I'll have to work with it for a few jobs to see if I can live with it. In any case, it seems that the standard Auray boom holder that I was using with my K-Tek won't fit around the thicker Loon pole, so I'm wondering what people are using for their thicker poles. I know some of you use the BoomMate. Does it accept larger diameters? Thanks.
  14. Bummer. I'll have to see what this TogLoc is tomorrow.
  15. I see 1.5" here, but once it is crewed into the pole it is less I assume.
  16. Thanks. I'll look into that. The Loon and im2720 should be arriving tomorrow so I'll see what I have to play with for sure.
  17. Really like the new output options. Will this be an option to purchase built into a new unit at the current price, or will it be an additional charge to get a new system with this option?
  18. Yep it does. I have a Loon on the way which comes with a TogLoc system, which I'm understanding is a semi quick release, but I'm really not seeing any useful info on it to confirm.
  19. Darn. That's just the threaded pole piece, right? Are there other solutions that will add less than 1"?
  20. I'm looking into the Sound Guys Solutions BPQR. Can anyone tell me how much length this adds to the pole? It looks like after it is threaded to the pole it adds less than 1", but I need to confirm that before I pick it up as I only have 1" to spare in my case. Thanks.
  21. Whatever you do, don't ask them not to. They'll assume you're kidding. Seriously. I used to tune live PAs regularly and have a nice Class 1 measurement microphone (used it for studios and anechoic speaker testing as well). I would often get people that I could tell wanted to walk up and jokingly say "testing check one two", so I would preemptively tell them "don't talk into that it's very sensitive equipment". Sure enough, that was the trigger they needed to spit right into my microphone.
  22. Thanks, Rado. I know both you and Eric enjoy DIY creative projects as well, so I appreciate your input. I have a basic Black and Decker power drill. Not great, but okay for home stuff. The rotary is the primary tool I want to utilize. Was looking at the wireless 8220, but with 1 hour of battery life and the cost of a battery, I'd rather just go corded. FYI, I do plan to do some basic drilling and cutting through round aluminum, wood, ABS, etc. Normal prototype stuff. Additionally, do any of these tools have a drill press accessory or will they fit in any that you are aware of?
