  1. if you show up on set with 2- little Eon 10"s, the rappers might think they are not BIG enough. one playback mixer for music videos, brings the classic cabinet speakers. mostly as a props. but ya, Robert the 10's are great. half the size and weight of the 15's to lug around, and they sound and perform just as fine. Good Luck, Frank
  2. And what about the so-called Digital/New Media? there are NO set rates at all according to Elizabeth. (a mixer told me this today, after leaving the local) So lets say a mixer working a webisode or a digital media gig, actually has to negotiate there own rate? whats up with that?
  3. Hey Guys, Just heard this morning on Stern, that some performers 'Lip Synced" there songs. most notably,Jennifer Hudson. just a thought into why it sounded so different.
  4. Senator, we used them with a Lectro T4 the other day and it was great. I know they are used on a ton of reality shows, sporting events and concerts. they are starting to "find" there way on film & tv sets . with production sound mixers being "pushed away" and setting up there carts further from the set/body pack tx's and some even mixing from there trucks/vans, these Helical antenna's just might be a good option for these particular set ups. thanks, Frank
  5. JW, I did not want it to be, I listed it at $450.00 and that is the price point suggested by Pws. we did a great walk test the other day and got 3 blocks (line of sight) and another half a block around the corner, before I was "winded" and got a little hit. I am not the one who lowered the price in the first place, merely stating The Audio Department will do the best, to match or beat there price. maybe the other vendors in there respected area's should sale the Helical for $450.00 they are worth every penny and it won't cheapen the product.
  6. hey guys, The Audio Department will match or beat any vendors online or in store advertised pricing. Thanks, Frank
  7. RVD, do you know anything about the deniro story? (true or false or a little bit of both) ps- can you "top" carl's pot story, and the 200 recorded tapes? (classic) he must have freaked.just to see his face and your face. better yet, to have that recording. later, hope you are well. miss you man. ps- we had a thread re: the nicknames of crew memebers or the "slang" we use or have heard. do you know what the slang, "southwest airlines" represents? 1- Hint- think of there slogan.2-it is direclty related to talent or actors.
  8. Mtm, the sd multitrack seminar is at the LA Film School and is open to "the public" you might want to rsvp thru lsc.
  9. wonder if Mark will ever tell "us" what happened? what really happened. well I just heard the kroq phone interview.(thanks Scott. don't know how you do it, but you never cease to amaze) it shed a little light, but there is just something missing there.
  10. RL, Give it to us straight, whats going on man? you have your "pulse on the industry"
  11. RVD, Great story about Carl Sagan. thought that was funny as hell when, Carl's asking you how many recordings left and you said 200, meaning ofcourse what you have rolled on for the entire project, not just the pot recording. and the conversation alone, about what are his choices or "strains" and the right "blend" in order for him to finish his thoughts for the script. wonder what he would of thought of today? , with the "strainds & blends" available with a presciption and the "clinics you can visit", he probably would have had some good scripts for the show. ttyl-
  12. Fop, Scott, thanks man. hope you are well. hope we all get busy again. hope sag can figure things out, so some more shows can get green lit. Gd Luck.
  13. KKS, Kevin, we are on burbank blv. 3 blks east of hollywood way. between warner bros and the burbank airport. we primarily rent, and we have a little shop on site as well.
  14. Philip, the list price if you purchase from pws $499. dealer resale price with us $450.00 per. there pretty amazing. my buddy has a TV show based around a race track, (it starts real soon) we are going to do a test midweek, at the finish line he will have a Vrf and SD recorder. and we will do a test with 2 helical's and then with just 1- helical and the other side the r-angle antenna. then I (the ginny pig) will walk to the far end of the center track and all around the back side and the back stretch and then back again.(you get the idea of the coverage), using different tx's , 1-smda, 1-mm400, 1-um450 1/4 wt. I will let you know how it goes. Later, Frank
  15. Hey guys, The Audio Department (818) 566-6526 has the much talked about Helical 8089 antennas in stock. feel free to come by and demo them. take a walk, (a long walk) take a listen. they are impressive to say the least. another great feature for these are, the fact you can use them for your IFB TX (lec.t4) for your boom op & utility. thanks, Frank
  16. were is Mark when you need him? probably working on taratino's next flick, or some project of that nature,
  17. Soda, I heard the same thing as jw, they were in a middle of a take, but it was one of those "still rolling" deals, when the DP wanted to tweak a light and came mumbling to himself directly behind Bale's costar and interrupted there moment. but , ya. when actors are off the set. "turning around" moving on to the next shot/setup etc. etc. bring yr faders down. there are some actors that get this and actually turn of there tx's. even the Sm's (holding down both buttons at the same time) does anyone remember the famous story involving Deniro? he was "offset" in a PHONE BOTH on NY city street making a personal call, when he looked up and saw the sound mixer like 30' a way looking directly at him with his cans on. Deniro said something to the effect, can you hear me? or are you listening to me? and the mixer, maybe was intimidated or just being honest, shook his head up and down, in a yes I am. and the mixer was fired at the end of the day. last thought- there is a pretty famous mixer, who is a"reader " here not a poster. once told me that at the beginning of a show or film, the very first time they wire up the talent or leads, he gives them a little privacy speech, about how and why there Mic's will be turned down when not on set etc. and the actors really appreciate that and there is a sort of bond that encounters between the sound team and talent. later,
  18. dosen't Mark use- Lectro's, sankens cos-11, and a yamaha oiv9
  19. I have seen and stepped in front of pissed off actors, actors face to face with other actors and also, for some reaons mainly dp's. with the said actor ranting and raving and actually leaving the set. Bale, imo- did not really "cross the line" until he said he wanted to kick his ass and was not going to come back until he was gone. that was wrong. I think the ad did try to interevene (Bruce or a prod) they said something to the effect of, lets take a minute. but bale was not having it. later,
  20. Rob, I was not a 1st on reality shows. but on many non-union idies, it is out of respect to the crew to call grace. even though everyone is on a"flat day rate" . gotta feed the crew. if you don't, they will do what happened on your shoot, laughing and lunch.
  21. what was the shirt jeff? "don't do dat - do disk"
  22. Nick, The problem w/PD-4's- they are not manufactored anymore. thats why you see them so cheap. mixers & vendors are trying to get rid of them while they can, kind of like what happened with the nagra a few years back. your best bet is probably a computer based setup. check out the Boom Recorder or if you want to have the option of going "mobile", go for the SD-7 series recorders. Gg-Luck
  23. here is a idea, have the converter box voucher/coupons, that do not have a expiration date. hmm.
