  1. apart of their response and isolation, the HD-25 is the only one I can wear for a long day, they are very light and comfortable. Plus they are very durable and have replacement parts. And the cable is light, robust and of the right size (in the short side) The """standard""" in Europe for many many years Just be shure to get the uncoiled short cable (unless you specifically like it otherwise, of course)
  2. Any official wiring of 80x and TL-40 for servo Lectros? (SMa, SMDa, SMDQ, UMa, etc) Not shure if they are wiring them as "compatible" or "servo"...
  3. in MS a shotgun will give you a strange stereo image, too sharp from center to sides. You should use a pair of good cardioids in ORTF. MS or XY will be too narrow. Try an AB pair too, with omnis, and maybe another mic to reinforce the center But ORTF always give the most natural and pleasing image. Use a pair of Schoeps 4 if you can You can add two omnis and use only the low freq from them to make the cardioids go lower
  4. any idea of the sensitivity of the 801 and 802? I can only see the sens of the TL-40... (-56 dB re 1 V/μBar = 15.85 mV/Pa, pretty hot)
  5. very cool, thank you! I am a Tele player and assembler
  6. I find Petrol bags too heavy and I don't like at all how they look. I use my Deva in a Portabrace bag and is very well protected against elements. But I don't like some things of the Portabrace bags, specially the accesory bag (wireless front case) attaching aproach. I'd like to try the Kata audio bags and eventually try to design a bag myself or contact that german bag manufacturer... For your SD702 recorder I'd use a Kata bag
  7. Thank you Vin. I'm shure it will work, I was so tired and stressed that I missed many points. Anyhow I got the time to redo the cables after a good sleep and it's fine now... A pitty that the Hirose 10 pin has no inner grip for the cables.
  8. Of course. I said "I used another cable I have as a reference (it uses pins 6, 8 and 9 for ground) and wired the new cable (...)" But measured at the cable fan since I didn't have small enough probes for the Hirose 10 female on Deva's chassis
  9. I will consider pin 9 as ground. I'll report back
  10. ...not so shure if pin 10 is connected to gnd internally on the Deva (V) or is considered a second anchor point that you can use by making a jumper from pin 9 to pin 10... and not shure if the Deva V has pins 6 and 8 as grounds for the returns or are really left unconnected...
  11. Looking at Hirose 10 pin's SD 422 mixer pinout and at SQN pinout (Thank you John and Wayne) pin 9 seem to be the right one as ground for 5 and 6 outputs. I'll rewire it that way (pin 1: out 5 hot, pin 3: out 6 hot, pin 9: common gnd), pin 8 may be used as gnd for return 2. And I found I missed the fact that I use a slight attenuation in my cart wiring between my Hirose 10 pin cable and the wireless tx. Sorry for that. Long shooting days and being in a hurry are prone to this kind of mistakes. Actually, the adaptors are labeled as attenuated, I just didn't "see it" Fernando
  12. Thank you. Mine is a Deva V and channels 5 and 6 can be used separately at the Hirose 10 connector (fortunately! I didn't know the changed this) Anyhow, note that, as I said, the grounds are not defined on the -incomplete- pinout description... Looking at the conventional pinout for this connector (442 mixer, SQN mixers...) I think I should use only pin 9 for ground...
  13. Hi all, I can't find the complete description of the Deva's Hirose 10 pin connector: ground pins are not described. I used another cable I have as a reference (it uses pins 6, 8 and 9 for ground) and wired the new cable like this: OUT 5: pin 1 hot, pin 8 gnd OUT 6: pin 3 hot, pin 9 gnd But it does not work well: - OUT 5 has a lower than normal level and some "weak ground" noise (it goes away touching the Hirose conn. chassis) and I can hear the processor thru it (using the screen for example) - and OUT 6 has a higher than normal level. I can't use the other cable because it is wired for my sound cart (long wires, heavy, etc.) and I need the new cable to work properly right now (I'm starting a documentary, over the shoulder and must be done for diferent reasons) I'm sending audio to unbalanced inputs (small wireless) Never had issues with my other cable... I'm sending audio to the same device (transmitter) I always use... Wich is the right pin to use for ground? Should I join ground pins on the Hirose connector for both outs? Please help as soon as possible. Many thanks in advance, Fernando
  14. I use 6mm diameter Canare star-quad for stereo cables too, that should fit. Or use what Rycote uses in their conn-box, it's from Mogami, can't recall the model.
  15. Yes, that's what I posted. But it needs next size Rycote (5), wich makes it (even) heavier. Using the size 4 with the mic upside down as you suggest looks fine (as soon as you swap the connectors in the recorder's end) The selector should be easier to reach too. Do your solution work well (avoiding handling noise) for on-the-go documentary situations? (boom while walking, etc.)
  16. Thank you John. Here are Steve's pictures. He is using a 416-type windshield with it (note Rycote is suggesting the Kit 5 (5L) wich is longer)
  17. As Steve G. tell me, it is possible to have an efficient suspension/windshield using the older Rycote modular but K-Tek rubber "stars" instead of the Rycote rubber bands. It doesn't look very elegant but it seems to work very well. I'll ask for permission to post the pictures he sent me.
  18. Rycote's picture is from Nov. 2008, more than a year Vin... (ok, still new maybe) Now I see that the CSS-5 need the Rycote windshield kit 5. I thought I could use the w. 4 I use with my CS3e and MKH60, so things get more complicate/expensive (and heavier) Anyway, wich other suspensions are being used with this mic?
  19. Hi all, The CSS-5 is an MS mic as you know and will be specially prone to handling noise. Wich is the most efficient/usable suspension to use it on a boom? I see that recently Rycote is proposing to use it with lyres on a regular suspension, but it does not look... ideal: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rycote/3073730661/# The front lyre holding the mic by the interference tube in such a mic... I need confirmation that such a rig would work well in a boom. Anyone? Or maybe you are using another suspension for it? I already have a new modular Rycote with lyres (for CS3e & MKH60) so it would be ideal but I'm open to any other solution. Thanks in advance, Fernando P.S. I do not own a CSS-5. I'm evaluating it's purchase and the suspension is key.
  20. a brilliant example Christian, thank you
  21. a very wide cardioid? that was unexpected...!
  22. Did you ever used the CSS-5 for dialog? Two people walk and talk, for instance, or other situations.
