  1. The SPDR is Lectrosonics’ response to customer demand for a small, lightweight dual channel recorder for use on virtual reality sound captures or as a backup recorder for bag systems in the field. The SPDR allows capture of the full stereo audio of an extreme sport participant, in-car scenes, plant mics, or in situations where a wireless system isn’t practical. When used in conjunction with a small mixer and the SRC receiver, the SPDR makes for a lightweight interview setup that provides full redundancy - all fitting into a small fanny pack. For compatibility with a wider range of memory cards while retaining high reliability, the SPDR features a deep write buffer. The SPDR records to a Micro SDHC memory card in Broadcast Wave Format (.WAV with iXML metadata) and 24 bit depth, at sample rates of either 48 kHz or 96 kHz. The unit can accept inputs from analog line level and AES digital sources, or from lav microphones wired for standard Lectrosonics 5-pin “servo bias” inputs. The SPDR can be jammed with time code via an industry-standard 5-pin Lemo connector, and features a highly accurate, temperature compensated (TCXO) time base crystal. The clock is accurate to less than 1ppm. The SPDR (Spider) runs on either internal AA batteries (over 20 hours on lithiums) or from external power via a built in battery eliminator. The record button features a small dimple for tactile feedback when starting recordings without removing form the bag. A unique set of dweedle tones can permit remote control via the audio chain. We are shipping units now and have units available on the shelf. Several dealers have units in hand. The machined aluminum housing is in the same extrusion as the LMb and slightly longer (0.65") at 3.9" high.   2. Possible stupid question here but going thru the manual of the Sound devices 633 and 302 and fiddling is not illuminating me. On my old SD302 there was a tape out, a 2 channel output on a single TA3 connector. This I had terminate in 2*1/4 inch jacks which went to my Zoom h4 recorder. Stuff panned left on the 302 went...left on the zoom, centered went to both channels and right went to right. On my SD 633 When I assign master mix L+R to my X1 TA3 output and use the same connector and plug to my Zoom (just using it for testing at the mo) my panning on the mixer has no effect on which channel the signal goes to. Am I doing something wrong or is X1 a mono summed output. To get a true stereo out am I going to have to use both X1 (left) and X2 (right)?
  3. Is anyone here using 1 mono shotgun/hyper and 1 stereo mic housed together in 1 blimp? I'm considering placing a stereo mic like the AT BP4025 underneath a CS-3e in the same blimp to capture stereo along with mono. Seems like a simpler way to do it than M/S for times when the post guys aren't comfortable with decoding M/S. I suppose this means there'll be two (three?) cables out of the blimp (3 pin XLR for CS-3e and set of 3 pin XLRs for BP4025). I'd be recording onto 3 channels, but it seems like a handy setup for docs or to get FX with the option of a little stereo ambience with it. What do you guys reckon?
  4. Hi All, Was checking out this Bill Frisell concert on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loMqVClAWz4 Had my head in the sweet spot (equilateral triangle between left and right speakers). I noticed that the guitar seemed to appear right in front of me - and very forward, as if coming right to me. If i move my head slowly between the speakers, I can hear a very narrow but distinct centre. Not sure if I'm hearing a stereo mix or dual mono - nonetheless an interesting feeling that the instruments/music is coming right to me, as opposed to feeling distant coming from the stage.   7. Hi all, I've been a lurker here for quite a while and have even bought gear from a member, but this is my first post. Here goes! I have an MKH8040 and a MKH30 that I want to use in an M/S configuration. I'd like to get a Rycote stereo windshield kit for it but I'm a bit lost as to which. I'm familiar with their modular windshield kits for single mono mics, but have never worked with their stereo kits. The Rycote website is not too helpful, as my configuration is not listed in their guide (http://www.rycote.com/images/uploads/compatibility_charts/Stereo_Microphone_List-October_2010.pdf). I'll probably stop by Trew Audio in the next couple of days, but in the meantime I was wondering if anybody has experience with this particular combo -- is there a way to make it work with a Rycote stereo kit?   9. Here is a picture of my custom Stereo XY mic setup for use with the RODE Blimp, x2 Apex 185 Cardiods. 185 Mount is Attached to a Bendable Tripod (Via Tape) and the tripod is bent around the Blimp to line up the capsules.
  10. Hey guys, Feel like I need a Stereo mic setup, my ambiences really lack in mono. Mixing for surround, so stereo ambiences is the least I can provide. Anything out there thats a no brainer for an entry level mic. I own a MKH50 and a 416. Maybe a third mic i could combine with these, I would like to keep it under 500. Or a self contained two mic unit. Any advice is appreciated.
