mikevarela
Hey guys, Looking into getting a set of omnis for amb spaced pair recording. Have heard some good things about the line audio (made in sweden) brand. Price point is nice. Any stories to tell about them? Decent sound, wind noise, etc.... Crussell
Check out some of the back episodes of the Tonebenders Podcast. One of those guys has some and loves them. http://tonebenderspodcast.com/ I use the CM-3's on toms all the time and love them but it's not exactly a field scenario. Paulo Ricardo Nunes
I have 4 CM-3s and I usually use them for ambience. They are very sentitive and quite for small sounds like nature and strong enough for loud sounds. For exteriors windshields are needed. If the omnis have the same quality, I would recommend. Jacob Gustavsson
The OM-1 is great! Much like the CM-3 in quality and performance. Very flat frequency response so useful for many situations, even measuring rooms. They both need a bit of extra gain though compared to an Røde NT-4 or AT 4053-b.Skickat från min C6603 via Tapatalk

nickreich
Line Audio OM-1s and CM-3s are some of my favourite mics for Classical recording and live sound regardless of their price (and I have Sennheiser, Schoeps et al), but for the specific purpose the OP is asking about, they have plusses and minuses. The thing that makes them so good as a classical music 'spot' or close mic is a certain mellowness to their transient response that makes them sound a touch less "too close" then they physically are to an instrument. This can be very useful for spot SFX with nasty metallic transients that would be overpowering if recorded with a similar Sennheiser 80x0 series mic. Vehicle recording, for example . Their downside for very quiet nature ambiences is their really low output compared to similar mics. As Jacob said above, you need a fair bit more preamp gain on them (though their self-noise isn't that bad) and so need something with really good preamps in that situation. Jim Feeley
So is there a US dealer for Line Audio, or have you all ordered directly from Sweden? http://www.lineaudio.se/index.html And any experience with their preamps? Philip Perkins
The GS recordists I posted with all bought theirs direct.
nickreich
Most everyone I know get them from No Hype Audio in Belgium. My understanding is that Roger at Line Audio would prefer JP Gerard at NoHype did the international sales. He's brilliant to deal with and has all the international shipping down to a fine art.
