  1. What I've learned about troubleshooting is 90% of the time it's a cable issue.
  2. I don't know, maybe you can do that. I have never used this machine, and I have never seen one. I simply took 30 seconds of my time to do a quick glance of the manual. Now I have spent up to one minute typing in this topic, and I'm done with it. It was a waste of the minute typing, and it was a waste of the minute reading it.
  3. Sometimes when people respond idiot responses to proper information, capitals are needed.
  4. 12 CHANNEL MODE IS HOW YOU USE LINE INPUTS THE QUESTION IS HOW TO USE LINE INPUTS THEREFORE YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE 12 CHANNEL MODE SOMETHING YOU WOULD NOT KNOW HOW TO DO WITHOUT READING THE MANUAL READ THE MANUAL IS THE ONLY GOOD ANSWER FOR THIS QUESTION
  5. YOU DIDN'T READ THE MANUAL EITHER you just got on here to try to prove me wrong. on pg 6 of the manual it states "The direct outputs can optionally be used as line inputs (see 12 channel mode)" Where is 12 channel mode? ON THE BOTTOM OF PAGE 11
  6. wingdings They were the original emoticon you know!
  7. There has been a trend for as long as I can remember from manufacturers. With my device they send me a stack of papers with writing on it. At first I thought it was a shelf to keep my device on or inside of, but when I actually looked inside the stack of papers I found something amazing. All that writing formed words, and those words formed sentences. Those sentences told me everything I needed to know about using my new device. It was amazing! Upon this new discover I looked at the stack of papers my alarm clock sat on. Turns out it was a RADIO AS WELL! complete with both AM and FM bands! I have been using the one from my car as a wheel chalk.
  8. I've run a PT playback cart based around a 003 for several years. It's on a dedicated computer, and all of my cables have been locked down. It's never let me down. The 003 is a firewire device. Put it together correctly, there will be nothing to worry about.
  9. My point was - SD make exactly what the OP is requesting. It's a machine with more features and more inputs. If he wanted those features, he should have got something with those features. It doesn't matter that it has more inputs.
  10. The better answer, (also the better answer to your surround recording discussion in another thread) is that when the people paying you request a specific thing, give it to them in some form or another. if they want a stereo mic, give them a stereo mic and charge accordingly. if they want a surround mic, give them a surround mic and charge accordingly. If it is something stupid, it's always good to discuss how or why they want what they want. When they insist, they are the ones paying you, it's their project, it's their money. Give them what they want! -Being profesional 101 by C.Calandro
  11. Sounds like the OP should have bought one of these. http://www.sounddevices.com/products/664/ I wish people would stop buying the cheapest thing available with expectations it will do the same things as the more expensive counterparts. Buy what you need. If you can't afford it, save longer.
  12. The other thing I see a lot is that people like xyz so they buy the machine that does x and z because it's cheaper than the xyz machine. Then they complain about why it doesn't do Y. then forever ask if Y can be a firmware update.
  13. I was just on newegg and built the version apple has on the front page (6 core xeon, 16gig 1866 ram) a few of the details of the mac weren't available. In that case I rounded up. Apple - 3999.00 newegg build (slightly better specs than apple build) 3479.59 So about a 500$ difference for a comparable pc build. or 400 if you add windows 8.1 (I would use fedora) I call shenanigans on this article.
  14. I have done something very similar, several times. Here is my advice to you - You probably won't record a single word You HAVE to know your hot keys or it's going to be a miserable experience. Make sure your PT chops are as good as you can get them!
  15. It depends on what the USB port is connected to. Is it connected to the disk writer? is it wired to a serial controller? is it just wired to power?
  16. Think about the hardware first. There seems to be a major misconception that this thing called "firmware" can do magical things. It's embedded software for hardware device. Firmware can only be written within the limitations of the hardware. Most, if not all firmware questions I have seen on this board recently are actually hardware questions and I think it is important to understand the difference between the two. software can be written to further optimize a DSP chip to allow more I/O processing. software cannot be written to turn a DSP chip into a Blueray player wifi remote controller, or a spaceship.
  17. There seems to be a major misconception of what firmware is on this board. Firmware isn't a magical piece of software that creates random new features. It's embedded software for a hardware device. The proper question is - Does the 633 contain the necessary hardware to allow a separate interface to be attached, and if it is, is this scenario something planned for the future of the device?
  18. I hear if you type his name into your computer enough times your screen is replaced by a strobe that flashes the text "CAPITALISM!@#@!" He was probably trying to avoid that. It requires you to buy a new computer after it happens.
  19. It sounds like there is a lot of google research happening here and not a whole lot of actual real world experimentation. It works the same as acoustic design. Using computers, CAD, and simulations, you can create what might be a theoretically perfect acoustic environment, but I think you will find that theoretically acoustically perfect, is not acoustically pleasing. There is a reason they call it computer AIDED design, as it doesn't take into account personal preferences and personal experience. Do your microphone research the same way. Just researching microphones and acoustics from google and wikipedia articles does not give you an educated, experienced opinion of what you want to be using. you need to go out and listen for yourself. If you don't understand what you are listening for (Which it seems is likely the case in this scenario) then go spend some time with people that can teach you rather than wasting your money. It takes years of experience to get years of experience, and judging from the last few posts I have seen you make, you are trying to bypass that. Slow down, learn, build yourself up. If you don't, it's going to cost a lot of money. Even if you managed to pull all the information out of everybody on this group, you STILL will be lacking in this area. Also, here is a quick point - This group is dedicated to the advancement of sound recording for picture. This is a HIGHLY competitive career choice and getting information out of people is AND SHOULD BE a privilege. A privilege you will never earn without focus to sound. Do you want to do sound or do you want to be a gaffer? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4996993/
