ycainjo Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 Hi all I would like to go further in inderstanding microphones and their technology to improve use and placement in recording. Do you have books to advise me, other than Jay's, Patrushkha's, Ric Vier's books ? Yann
tombackus Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 There is the book by John Eargle - "The Microphone Handbook". Its a little bit older since I got my copy back in the 80's. Still lots of good info. Tom
tourtelot Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 John Eargle's The Microphone Book (Focal Press) is regarded by some as the definitive work on microphones. You won't find a lot of pages devoted to location sound for picture but it is an in-depth work. D. Tom, beat me to it by three seconds. :):)
tombackus Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 Also another book on microphones, this one by Lou Burroughs - "Microphones: Design and Application". This one published in 1974 by Sagamore Publishing.
Rick Reineke Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 A bought John Eargle's "The Microphone Handbook" (and the Recording Studio Handbook.. I forget the author) about a hundred years ago (or so it seems) when I had a 4-track project studio in my garage. Neither is a 'recipe cook book' but loaded with technical info, which anyone in the pro audio biz should learn.
henrimic Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 Not really a book, but you’ll find interesting tips on DPA’s microphone university: https://www.dpamicrophones.com/mic-university
borjam Posted January 1, 2022 Report Posted January 1, 2022 John Eargle's book was updated in 2011. https://www.routledge.com/Eargles-The-Microphone-Book-From-Mono-to-Stereo-to-Surround---A-Guide/Rayburn/p/book/9780240820750
