ProSound Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Public Service Message: While it may not be the most fun activity I would encourage everyone to make sure there equipment list with serial numbers is up to date and complete in the event of theft, damage or an unexpected out of country job. I just spent the last two days inventorying every item I own and actually found a few things I forgot I had. Quote
Jan McL Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Very good advice. Always open the spreadsheet when new gear arrives and just do it. -- Jan Quote
RPSharman Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Good tip! I have everything with a serial number (as well as everything without one) on an Excel spreadsheet. It's pretty cool actually, and handy to give production for kit rental inventory, shipping, insurance, etc. Quote
David Waelder Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 An added thought- When laying out your spreadsheet, assign one column to country of origin. This is information you might need for a Carnet and is particularly sought by some countries when temporarily importing gear for a project. Just useful to have the data already in your documents. David Meaning country of manufacture, or country where I live? I have sent my list for the Carnet, but have not included this. Also... I have several versions, some including replacement values, some including EVERY little piece of gear, some more generalized, etc. Quote
David Waelder Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Meaning country of manufacture, or country where I live? Country of manufacture. Some countries have specific restrictions on the goods from particular other countries and want to know where items were made. You may want to fudge this data on your Carnet but it's good to start from a position of knowledge. David Quote
Marc Wielage Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 That was the same advice given to me by my insurance agent: name of equipment, serial number, country of origin, and replacement cost. Makes sense. --Marc W. Quote
Matt McGowin Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I just use a simple windows text document (rtf) to list everything i have. I put the serial numbers and purchased price. I also have another version with daily rental and weekly rental costs (3 or 4 day weeks) I agree with Whitney, everyone should have a list of gear. I love it when I get to add new gear to my list! Jon Gilbert Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I always keep an up to date one, mainly for Carnet use, it's important to make sure it is up to date though, Carnet mistakes can be costly, and production managers don't always check that the list they have is the current one! Quote
