Ty Ford Posted September 10, 2024 Report Posted September 10, 2024 (edited) anyone heard one yet? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1852177-REG/sony_ecm_l1_lavalier_microphone.html Edited September 11, 2024 by Ty Ford cause Quote
borjam Posted November 11, 2024 Report Posted November 11, 2024 Seems to be a new version of the ECM-77, but the connection is plug-in power. I considered getting one as I have two ECM-77s but it is not compatible with the UWP system. Plug-in power (commonly used in cameras and consumer wireless systems) is unbalanced while the ECM-77 BMP (wired for the Sony UWP system) is actually balanced according to the service manual. Sony also says it is not compatible (although looks like they fired their technical writers!) https://www.sony.co.id/en/electronics/support/accessories-audio-video-accessories/articles/00347553 If it is an ECM-77 the sound will be good. Sound Posted December 25, 2024 Report Posted December 25, 2024 Thanks a lot! Unbelievable that the new Sony mic is incompatible to their own UWP-lineup.. Until now I have been using their stock mics ECM-V1BMP that come with the UWP transmitters, and I even had to buy some new ones as the cables wore out after some time. They work fine most of the time with a litte EQ in post, but 150 euros each for a ECM-V1BMP seems overpriced to me - considering they are not very robust. Are there any other good options? I work mostly for news broadcast and I have five UWP-D transmitters, so cost can be a factor. As I dont need to hide the mics on the talent do you think maybe even getting five Rode Lavalier II with Sony adapter cable could be an option? Or are there any other very robust and affordable options? I know, most people here play in a totally different league.. Quote
borjam Posted December 25, 2024 Report Posted December 25, 2024 Problem is, Sony has two wireless systems with incompatible 3.5 mm jacks. UWP and a Bluetooth based system. The latter takes plug-in power microphones. Quote
Sound Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Thanks, they should definitely clarify this in the product description. Still quite an expensive microphone for a cheap bluetooth based system. Quote

Or get the workhorse Sanken COS-11 which can be found wired for Sony systems. I guess Sony had cameras in mind with the ECM-L1. Quote

And I still have a few units. Liked them much better than the popular Sennheiser. In any case, you can wire almost any microphone out here for the Sony system, the stock ones are pretty bad. I would offer you to buy some used Trams or B3 from me, but since I'm in the US and you are in Europe it probably won't make financial sense. Inexpensive mics that are much better than the stock one - Tram Tr50, Countryman B3, Sennheiser MKE2 (expensive new, but there's a lot of used ones out there). If the stock costs 150 euros these days I would ditch them. They are also not very sturdy compared to the ones I mentioned. For re-terminating used ones - I do it myself, but the price in the US is roughly 50-60 bucks per mic, I imagine it'll be similar in Germany. Cheers. Just as an example - I re-terminated those: https://www.ebay.com/itm/126534117612 Quote
