cstauffer
Hello all. So I just bought a DSR4 and I am trying to update the firmware to 1.29 so I can use it with the SL-2 I also just bought. I am on a Windows 10 PC with Wireless Designer 2.1 installed. Powered up the DSR4 and plugged it into the laptop which I have used several times to hook into my Venue with no issues. When I go to try to update it, or even to open it up on the designer platform it is not being recognized. I tried 4 different usb cables of varying qualities. It just won't see it so I can't update the firmware without it. Anyone have issues trying to update theirs? Thanks. CRAIG
Johnny Karlsson
Some PCs need a USB driver. I can’t tell you exactly what or how, but try searching for it on the Lectro website. Otherwise email, or call them Monday. They are good people, super cool and generally very helpful.
cstauffer
Well, after exhaustive troubleshooting with making sure usb drivers were right, software versions were right (they all were), it turned out that it was the 5th micro usb cable I tried. For future reference, the one that comes with the Ambient Lockit did the trick. Hope this helps someone in the future... CRAIG
EnotsMedia
Welcome to the DSR4 club! Yeah, whenever I got my DSR4’s it was a total TIL there were TWO types of USB cables…so much for the “Universal” part of “UNIVERSAL Serial BUS” one kind does just Power and the other Power and Data. At this point I would think Lectrosonics would include the correct USB cable to minimize the confusion/ frustration(maybe they do now?). And whatever anyone tells you DO NOT use a small 90 degree USB cable to update the DSR4 FW while in the SL2. Sure it “may” work a few times…but it WILL fail….at the worst time and possibly brick your unit. Proper procedure is to remove from SL2 and power the unit externally via a different bottom plate and then do the FW upgrade. It has something to do with the heat build up during the FW process or something. I had one unit almost bricked b/c the FW wouldn’t complete…called Lectro and tried all the tricks… the Hail Mary was to remove from SL2 and power externally. I really wish all these “tips” weren’t scattered all over the internet for end users to make sense of but here we are. Other than the FW update issues it’s been a fantastic receiver!
