  1. Is the battery replaceable? What happens when it dies in the middle of a long day? "sound is wrapped!" LOL
  2. According to the SD guys, its an open platform that anyone can contribute or adapt to.
  3. Seeing this not come to market really sucks! I feel bad that I could not back this round of the kickstarter...I did last time but I had go another route for work purposes. Our market gets better when there are guys like George out there making cool stuff like this! I hope someone will see this as an opportunity to maybe add a new product to their current offering and help George bring this to market. All it takes is one solid investor! Good luck George! Keep us all posted!
  4. As has been expressed this isn't isolated to one vendor. And would it not not be super retarded to have a "Staff Engineer" doing your shipping an receiving? These are large companies as are the "usual suspects" who charge absurd amounts for shipping..Who also have shipping receiving departments...So your sense of proportionality doesn't really line up with the reality of running a business. Are there costs involved with Shipping/Receiving? YES but passing absurd charges along to the customer is not acceptable. Providing great customer service doesn't stop once the phone is hung up. Great customer service is follow thru and taking the time to make sure the client is taken care of in all ways. So YES the person filling the order needs to consider shipping cost...especially if they are disproportionate to the item being delivered. Why not go that extra mile to save the client a few bucks?? That extra few minutes goes a LONG way when that client sees the bill.. He will remember that and make sure to do business with that vendor again. There is a blatent disregard for the customer in a lot of industries these days... The vendor thinks "The client has to have my product so it doesn't matter how I treat them". This way of thinking will cause you to lose customers in the end. And to the point of changing the topic.. What if that was the only difficulty he's experienced? Maybe all of the other vendors he deals with are good about this kind of thing. Making people aware of things going on in our niche industry is a good thing.
  5. I think there are obvious reasons why one would pay more for shipping, or use FedEx or UPS. But honestly I've had TONS of problems with UPS...TONS! Oh and by the way, UPS could give a crap about you..even if its their fault. I got in to a huge argument with a manager and he basically told me they don't care, and they won't do anything to fix an issue they created at the time. So never again! There was a time I probably never would have used USPS, but they have improved and you just can't beat flat rate shipping..Plus it shows up in 2/3 days max domestically. I would consider shipping mission critical stuff USPS...Insured of course and I'd probably pay for an overnight service.. I shipped something recently via USPS Overnight by 3pm. It was $44. Not too bad, and it was early..
  6. I ordered a pack of Rycote stickies from one of the usual suspects. $17 at the very most. Everyone knows stickies come in a ziplock bag...can easily fit in an envelope, and are obviously not fragile. $12 for standard shipping in a gigantic box....Seriously!? I called and asked if there were less expensive options and was flatly told "no". That was the absolute lowest price they could charge. SO for that reason alone I cannot use this "usual suspect" anymore even though I have a great deal of respect for them. I tend to make a lot of my on-line purchases in the evening after work when the shop is closed, so if there isn't a cheaper option for shipping then I have to chose whatever is available. When I can I ask for flat rate shipping. Everyone knows I build cables. I do my best to keep cost low and have been using USPS flat rate shipping for almost all of my orders...I have had zero issues shipping this way. I print the label at home and drop it off at the Post Office. This works for me and I don't have to charge a ton for shipping. Even the times I've shipped over night..The package arrived on time and when expected. I have even shipped internationally this way and have had no problems. I know the USPS has their issues but I have not experienced any to date. Flat Rate USPS shipping can both be tracked (free) and insured up to I believe $5000... And honestly if you are shipping something that is that much then you will definitely ask for insurance and tracking. Oh and all of their packing boxes are free.. I think the vendor should be courteous enough to make the option available when placing on-line orders. A lot of people just don't have time to make the call and ask.. How much common sense does it take to see that a ziplock bag full of stickers or an antenna doesn't need to ship in a 12x6x6 box?? I think it would make the vendor look better and more customer servicy (sp) if they tried to save the customer some money instead of shipping something so small huge box with un-needed packaging and passing that a long to the customer.
  7. I keep mine in the front open pouch area... In fact i keep 2 that way I can switch out on the fly. basically pull the cup off dead batt and pop it on the new one.. QUICK! Not a fan of the designed location for the battery. I really don't like having to open the side flaps up unless I absolutely have to. I was also not a fan of that back pouch on the Petrol bags either, however they were much easier to access when your in a rush. Currently my PSC RF Multi SMA lives in the battery spot, but I think I'll be moving that soon as well. Overall I like the bag a lot! Just a few things here and there that nag at me once in a while.
  8. That's what was originally conveyed to me. Last week however, when I was getting RF coordinated I was told NO Zaxcom of any kind in any block..along with no camera hops at all, and no pre-game wireless for ENG crews.
  9. I agree and would like to know as well. Without speculating..the information that was mentioned earlier in this post pertaining to spectrum footprint is what was conveyed to me and several others standing around me when I asked about using zax gear. According to John some if not all of the information on this thread is incorrect. I know he was there doing Enhanced Audio so his level of understanding and knowledge of the issue is probably extremely accurate but is bound by NDA...Whatever it is...its a big freaking secret!
  10. I understand Jeff..I definitely do not want this to get out of control as well. As to what Phil said.. I think the people that can "break radio silence" are not part of the sound community. So getting a first hand answer here or in the FB doesn't seem likely....The problem with this is when there is an answer, there is no back and forth...which leads to more speculation and more criticism because of second hand information.
  11. Well said John! And that was not directed at you.. but more the collective of people on FB who also use JW that blasted me for writing something incorrectly. My intention was to be supportive and proactive...next time I'll think twice and let people know privately...then if it gets out, it gets out.
  12. I had no motive when I posted that there would be no Zax for ENG at the Super Bowl...And by my own admission I relayed what was said to me incorrectly...Thus churning up the rumor mill. I have zax gear. A small amount but it is gear that I depend on and use in my work flow everyday.. When I was told I couldn't use it, I was caught off guard and thought it was be important and courteous for others who might be coming to AZ for the Super Bowl to know before they got here.. I probably should have waited to post what was said to me in order to avoid all this so called speculation. That's on me. And for everyone else who basically shot the messenger for getting the details wrong? There needs to be an emoticon that gives you all the middle finger...because thats about how I feel about it.
  13. This is great! Going to make a trip to REI for some parts!
  14. I have no doubt whatsoever... As I said on my side..ENG was told no zax period. The reasons don't matter at this point. I was just trying to get it out there to people that this was the case so they could plan for it.
  15. Really though.. That would be one of US doing that...And risk getting banned by the NFL? You would have to be lucky enough to be on the same block as the player mics. Is it really that realistic? I for one would not risk it... GDC was out in force last night at the game..Constantly scanning etc.
  16. This is essentially what I was told by GDC when myself and several of our colleagues were attempting to coordinate zaxcom gear. The last 2 Cardinals games of the season GDC would not coordinate ZAX, and while at first I (personally) was told that it was a congestion issue in a specific block, later I found out that no zax was being coordinated at all other than what the NFL was using based on their agreements with ZAX. Basically ENG crews were out of luck! Some of the conversation got out of hand..somewhat due to MY lack of properly communicating information. Sometimes thats hard to to do when your walking thru a crowd tethered to a camera. Regardless of the reasons behind the decision, the decision was theirs to make... I was simply trying to communicate this information to friends and fellow mixers so they could plan ahead and not be caught by surprise.
  17. That is TOTALLY awesome! I'll be ordering one for my rig! Thanks for putting the effort into something like this Simon!
  18. The cables provide no attenuation or padding...They are simply straight thru cables. When I had my G3's I soley used them as "hops". I ran line Level into the TX and mic Level out of the RX. This is the only way I felt I could comfortably run them. I can't remember what my setting were but I always played it very safe with them...even running them lower than I should so I would have plenty of head room..never peaking. Good luck!
  19. That is very true! Wandering and I were just getting at the point of not wanting a wifi dongle on a QRX.
  20. I would like to phone become a zaxnet device with the app. If the app is coded with the zaxnet encryption and a certain amount of control over the wifi hardware on the phone can be obtained then there is no reason why it couldnt function like any other zaxnet enabled device. Oddly enough I think zaxcom would have more success building this on the android platform because its an open architecture.
  21. But it needs a "WIFI" dongle to connect to QRX? And you have to have wifi enabled on your iphone to use it and it runs in the 2.4ghz spectrum. in the consumer sense..No its not WIFI. I'm not going to connect my lynksys router to zaxnet, Its an extremely proprietary implementation of the 802.11 protocol. Either way...it would be nice if the zaxnet protocol was bi-directional in all devices so a dongle isn't necessary. I'm not trying to split hairs here.. I think the possibilities here are great...and maybe asking for what I mentioned is a limitation of the protocol thus requiring the use of the dongle for those devices. Only Zaxcom knows.
  22. My guess is that if the CL or IFB200 is in RX mode then you could potentially control it from the app...However your control would end at that device. It would be nice if these devices had bi-directional wi-fi capabilities. Then the dongle would not be necessary at all and devices like the CL/IfB200/QRX could all be controlled from the app without having to touch the device. You would simply turn zaxnet "on" and configure it from the app if that is your work flow.
  23. Thanks Karl! Yes, I add paint to the epoxy before applying. The paint will definitely scratch off if you apply it after the epoxy hardens.
  24. Correct! Typing as i walk out the door to a shoot. [emoji12] Ive built a couple of these into a ta3 which was not easy! Buy it worked. I just wanted to make sure rob saw the diagram and knew there were more options to building that cable.
