  1. You know, for the HS kids who want to make a film in between classes and have some fun and have a total budget of Whatever They Finds They Keeps, then that is a fine solution. The problem begins when people look at these and don't understand why hiring a pro will get you better results.
  2. Zoom on a boom. You know it's a good idea 'cause it rhymes.
  3. If I had a nickel every time someone tried to seduce me with the promise of future work at real rates, I would never have to work.
  4. Get a Big Mac and a McShake or whatever they are called these days and there's a quarter of my salary!
  5. Forty bucks! Wow, I can buy dinner for two at an inexpensive restaurant!
  6. I wouldn't mind a photo comparing the 664 to Nomad seeing as that comparison will be discussed ad nauseam in the coming weeks.
  7. If you have a lot of mics and are recording something that is unrehearsed such as a conference, then I can see the use.
  8. I usually set the IFB out to OUTPUT 6, and I would assign the boom PreFade to OUT 6 and Slate and COMM buttons there. For my hops, I'd put them on different OUTPUT busses and not assign the COMM button so nobody but my boom op can hear me when I press COMM.
  9. Keep in mind that until January 1st, aside from upgrades that require hardware changes, the cost of upgrading is more or less the price difference between models. That is a perfectly fair solution to what could otherwise be very maddening to us people who already paid for our Nomads.
  10. The ERX in that application is a godsend. It is a good quality (though I wouldn't say broadcast quality) mono hop, and a poor man's SB3 in one lightweight package.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe slowing down the audio by a rate of 0.1 percent should fix any sync issues. All of these problems are relatively straightforward fixes with modern professional software.
  12. Amateurs I say! Just refer them to WaveAgent to fix the TC issues and let them deal with it. 99 percent of the time these days, when someone says 24, they mean 23.98, and its so much more satisfying to blame someone else for that. It's really not your responsibility to worry about it other than to set your TC to 24 from now on.
  13. Yeah, that was a bit sarcastic on my part. Sorry. If you need to use your return inputs for an extra pair of line level inputs, you can have all 8 inputs on ISOs and still be able to deliver a stereo mix, something you can't do with the eight. I think you can record both TA5s for 10 isos, but I'll have to check on that.
  14. I'll give you four: Track 9, Track 10, Track 11, and Track 12. Seriously though, no other technical advantage to my knowledge.
  15. Is there a price point for the upgrade for people who purchased the 6 and want the 10? What about people who purchased Nomad before a certain date?
  16. They're great so if you NP1 goes down, you still have a moment to power everything down and call cut without the risk of loosing anything. I had that happen to me once with my FR2 and it never happened again. Now I use the Nomad which has its own protections against file loss to to power failure. I'm curious what the 664 does to ensure that if power dies and you don't have AAs inside, how does it go about recovering the recording?
  17. What exactly goes into a building owner's reel?
  18. I'm under thirty and that also bugs the hell out of me. I think the camera rec stop button should be rigged with an electric shock controlled remotely by our recorder so you have to tell us to cut before you can cut camera.
  19. I've used comteks for scratch tracks since they are not remotely broadcast quality though ill go through the motions of setting them up as properly as possible for a dslr. I'm pretty sure the camera will magically take care of screwing up my track for me.
  20. Best guess would be the preamps are capable of receiving and outputting 50khz signals even though the lowly recorder can only do up to 24.024khz, should the need arise to record sounds for bats.
  21. Recording devices may change, but workflows have stabilized for now. These days, hand a client or DIT or whomever your CF or SD card and download. Done! As long as that doesn't change you can get a lot of years even with something like an FR2.
  22. http://amzn.com/B004JRYLG4 Those are excellent headphones to provide to those who don't bring their own. Cheap, sound decent and easy to pack.
