  1. I started off with a ktek, but just got a used VDB 18' with internal coil. It was way to noisy, so I pulled that out and ran a 25' straight through it and it's the best I've used so far. Got hooked on them while 2nd booming on "House of Cards" with Mike Primmer and Mark Weingarten. Great poles, as long as they're the right model.
  2. I've been thinking about getting a new mic, and I have a bit of a toss up here. I don't know which model Schoeps it is yet, I'm still waiting to hear back from seller, but I've used it and it's in great condition. Selling for about the same price as a new MKH 50, which I've been using almost every week on "House of Cards" with mixer Mark Weingarten and they've been great as well. Any thoughts? Thanks, Steve
  3. Boom box, grips love it. Where'd you get that boom box apple box! I've been looking for one forever! If you didn't buy it from somewhere, do you know someone who will make one for me!
  4. How's block 24 in the Baltimore/DC area?
  5. Looking at a VDB boom pole that has a coiled cable, but like straight better, so wondering if I could get it and just take out the coiled. It's bottom exit as well.
  6. I don't know if anyone saw it of the Coffey Sound site before it switched over to TrewAudio, but there was a product called Boom Box, and it was an apple box that was made for a boom operator. It's no longer online, but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find it or if someone out there can make me one.
  7. Still finding myself stuck with this decision. I've found used of both of these sets, but I can't decide which one to go with. Some of the ones I found were also 401's with an Sma. I'm doing mostly corporate work, but I'm mixing a feature this coming July, so I'd to get something that can cover both types of jobs. Any ideas?
  8. I've done some utility work now and have noticed that I need to have a belt with pouches in order to carry a lot of the gear I need through out the day (transpore, scissors, foot foam, wires, connectors, etc.)... I was wondering what everyone was using out there and what they had in the belt kit?
  9. Anyone have any experience with lectros block 20 in the Maryland/DC area? What are some blocks you've all been happy with in that area?
  10. I rub my feet with this stuff called BluEmu on my feet after, and sometimes before every shoot, and I don't get sore feet at all! It's amazing and works for any and all other joint, muscle or tendant pain!
  11. Hey all, wanted to get some advice on upgrading my wireless... I know that I want to go the Lectro route, but I'm not sure whether to do one of the following: Used/New? If used, which generation? 400 or Sra series? Venue or Field? Sacrifice quantity for quality? I really like the idea of having 2 receivers in one small unit, makes my bag lighter which is much needed. Although, I've never worked with them so I'm not familiar with how they are. I've heard and worked with the field and it's pretty awesome, but not sure if I want to work with that big thing all the time. I've heard good/bad things about 200 series lectros, but better about 400 series of course. I'm open to any advice or suggestions anyone may have... I just really need to get rid of my G3's!!! Thanks!
  12. I did exactly that.. Still really hot signal but worked well enough. Im pretty sure the preamps have improved, they sounded pretty good for DSLR. Gotta check the manual to be sure
  13. Possibly but I'm gonna have to check... You have an opinion on where the best threshold, release etc should be?
  14. I just wanted I thank everyone who posted in this thread.. I've learned a great deal from reading and I really look forward to 3rding ASAP! I just joined local 487 so I'm hoping to get some utility work this year. I boomed for a great mixer/boom op in Baltimore, Lorenzo Millan, for about a week or so and learned more than I could ever imagine! I look forward to completing all the tasks listed above, and more!
  15. I've been noticing that my 788 has started sounding a little distorted when it's only hitting its peaks at around -14 dbFS (around first yellow LED)... I thought to change the meter scale and it didn't seem to alter anything. Is it just for reference or does it actually change what the VU reads? Also opinions on distortion thng would be great too lol. I checked all my radio inputs and they're fine as well...
  16. I mixed a pretty simple Under Armour spot last week, and while half the shoot was phantom flex footage of flame throwers, metal grinders and welders, the other half was interviews using 2 5D MK III... Which I have to say, put a little smile on my face. It now features 3 audio specific improvements that seem pretty good. 1. TIMECODE - it now has the ability to run as a master for TC... Unfortunately, not slave yet, but it proved helpful at some points... I didn't try to jam out of it to a slate yet, but I'm wondering if the headphone jack acts as a possible jam out. 2. Audio levels on main screen can be seen AND levels can be changed! I was running a G3 hop to the 5D and was actually able to set tone levels on the camera! The best part tho was the fact that you could see the VU (dbFS) on the actual main screen while filming. Great addition. 3. The headphone jack no longer acts as the mic input.. It now has its own mic input, although still 1/8 inch... But still an improvement... I think the impeovements are great, but still have the limitations that shooting on DSLR cameras bring to the table... Move in the right direction... So far...
  17. Ive been on an under armour shoot all week and my wireless had been fine up until the last day where my radios, no matter what frequency they were on, output this weird white noise. It wasn't steady but modulating. Came in through my TX, but didn't show up on my RX AF levels, but heard it in headphones... Any ideas as to what it may be? I checked every frequency I both A and B bandwidths and tested on COS-11's, Sonotrims and ME-2's...
  18. Any recommendations for well priced shielded mic cables? I hear Mogami is good, but I've mainly worked with Communitronics
  19. I'm looking to solder a bunch of my own cables and I'm wondering where the best place to buy the cables and connectors would be online. Looking to make: XLR m-f XLRm/f - 1/8 inch XLRm/f - TA3f/m Timecode cable for Sound Devices (Jam cable to Denecke Slates) also, BNC cables
  20. Just called Sound Devices now, and they're sending 2 packages of stickers free of charge. Gotta love Sound Devices! Thanks fr the tip Marc!
  21. Im looking to get a cart for my 788t rig. What's a good recommendation for either an inexpensive cart or a good way to make one. Looking for a cart that is similar to the PSC or film tools cart, but also open to a follow cart like the magliner. Most important part is that it folds almost flat.
  22. This is kind of a funny thing to ask, but where can I find the colored stickers used on the 788t for the CL8 pots and the 788t pots as well?
  23. Art, Thanks for all the great years of work, I've definitely admired the work you've done. I'd love to see a list of gear if you don't mind. Saadasound@gmail.com Thanks again, Steve
