Comtek PR 216

Does anyone know how to wire a "Line Out" cable for a Comtek PR 216?

A straight thru cable does not always work. You need to load

down the PR to think it has a headphone plugged and match the

impedance to the line input of what ever your plugging into.

Thanks for your help.

I think you may be mistaken about the PR-216. I think Comtek dropped that whole routine where the receiver had to believe there were headphones plugged in (so, an 8 ohm load or something) for signal to pass through a cable instead of headphones. Depending on what you are trying to drive from the Comtek headphone connector, you can simply wire up an appropriate cable. I have made many cables, usually using mini TRS (stereo headphone) connector on one end and a 3 pin XLR proper sex on the other end --- wired either 1 and 3 to sleeve and pin 2 to tip (for pseudo balancing) or just pin 2 and 3 or just pin 1 and 2; whatever works. Someone who knows more about this can chime in with what is really proper to feed whatever device it is you are trying to feed from the PR-216.

Pretty much what Jeff said.

The PR72 receivers turn on when you plug in the headphones and turn off by unplugging them.  Therefore, if you want to make an output cable to feed something like a high impedance recorder input, you'd need to make, or buy, a special cable with a load across the output.  1k. to 2k. works fine.

However, the PR216 that you're asking about has a dedicated on/off switch and, therefore, no such load is required.  A simple mono mini plug wired with shield to sleeve and signal lead to tip will work fine.  To feed an XLR line input (balanced or unbalanced), connect the shield to pin 1 and jumper pins 1 & 3 in the XLR housing.  The signal then goes to pin 2.  For a phone plug output, connect the shield to the plug's sleeve and the signal lead to the tip.
