  1. Big film headed your way "Killers of the Flower Moon" look it up and get on it.
  2. I have mic'd many helmets and found that any mic near the mouth or even in any area below the eye line can lead to trouble. I have had the best luck and most natural sound putting a cos-11 in the top forehead area near the brim of the helmet. This goes for all helmets sports, military, construction and space. This seems to open the mic up like any overhead or boom mic. Lower down can lead to all kinds of sound anomalies, proximitiy effects, overloading and other problems. The main problem would be if you can't hide the mic lead. I have also put the whole transmitter in th
  3. Does anyone know if Films are still "Bonded" In other words is there an Insurance Policy taken out on a Production to cover the Investors if the film can not be completed? Do studios (like Netflix) self Insure. I know Actors need to have Physicals before they start shooting and are Insured by some companies. In the Insurance Industry there is a person called an Actuary who analysis the risk taken by an Insurance policy. Anybody know anyone in the Film Insurance business who has heard if this is still happening for films? Or is it all about just following the Virus Guidel
  4. Does anyone know if the mini headphone jack on the IFBR1B can be repaired in the field? My biggest problem with the Lectro IFB's is the headphone jack wearing out or being damaged. I am guessing that you'll need at least 1 extra rechargeable battery with every unit, how many batteries will they come with?

    HHB Dat

I'm selling my HHB Dat on eBay and found this article in with the box with the recorder I haven't opened since 1999.
  6. Live and learn, there are no minimum staffing requirements in the IA contract. The IA can sign a one off contract with anything the Producer wants in it.
  7. Is there a way to get the Sound Report from the HD on a 788? When you create the report, it saves it to the HD and the CF card. When you back up the Folder on the HD with the report in it, it does not copy over the report to whatever your backing up to, or so it seems. It only copies the Report over the one time you create it to the CF card.
  8. The 2 person sound crew is making a comeback thanks to the International. "Comeback Trail" (no joke) staring Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones is coming to New Mexico to start shooting next week. Producers have figured out they can come to NM and by-pass the ASA contract and sign "One Off's". Not only do they get reduced crew at reduced rates they also get the local rebates. There are eleven producers listed on iMDB, no downsizing there. This is the second time I know of a major production doing this. The other film was Hell or High Water. Now tha
  9. This is the quietest practical fire apparatus I have ever worked with. The flame is nearly completely silent. It belongs to Prop Master Randy Moore. The first time I worked with it was on Cosmos season 3. We had a scene with a line of fire pits that the host had to walk past. The flame was at least 2 - 3 feet high coming out of caldrons. Not a sound except for an occasional snap from the flame in the wind. Because the gas is allowed to come out of so many holes there is no pressure driving the flame causing the hissing sound.

    14 hour day

Hello LA and NYC brothers and sisters there's a rumor going around out in here in the rain starved desert about the IA signing off on some sort of 14 hour day rule. Is this for 600 only or is it another overly optimistic hearsay. Is it April already? Cheers and good luck for a prosperous year.
  11. Has anyone tried any of the many external mics available for the iPhone 7 with the Lightning connector? I found a very simple audio recording app called VoiceRecorder. I like the Old School interface that looks like a cassette recorder. Do you have one that you use?

  13. Thanks very much for your reply, your blog was very helpful too, cheers
  14. I'm thinking of buying a couple of Zaxcom ZHD transmitters and a RX200 receiver. I would like to have the remote recording capability. Would anyone care to comment on their experience with this setup?

  20. Cos 11's take a beating. I have 3 that need repair; a bad connector, wire wind screen came off and a head pulled loose. What are your recommendations for places to send them in for repair?
  21. I several complete Lectrosonics IFB blocks for separate feeds to director, boom and utility. I have consistent problems with the 1/8" headphone connector on the R1A. You can not take it apart in the field and service the connector. Outside here in New Mexico there is pretty much a constant wind filled with dirt and dust. It works into these connectors and makes them noisy and intermittent and fail. You have to send the receiver into to be repaired. The connector is a sealed panel mount and has to be replaced. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? With Respect

  24. Enthralling history for anybody interested in sound recording, I heard that Kudelski got into making custom spy and satellite communications equipment. He made so much more money than with manufacturing Nagras, so he moved on. Wasn't there a rumor out there that Nagra had an updated stereo analog machine about the size and weight of the IS that they had prototyped and were thinking of making. We all know that the analog recording will always have its special place in history. Too bad it can't be carried on. Look at what Kodak is doing to keep Film alive.
