  1. You make me realize I forgot to mention I work with a bag so the shark fin antenna is not an option since we go from the coaches' office to the field then inside again, etc... I was more thinking about a solution to simply get more range with whips or very small antennas...like putting these little amps between my receivers and the antennas I indeed tried lifting the whole bag (hence the receivers) in the air during shooting and didn't get any difference. But I'd be ready to try to use the 36'' coax antennas and velcro'em to my harness, in addition to the amps
  2. Concerning the mentionned antenna, is it the one? : http://www.gnarlywireless.com/product_accessories/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=17&Itemid=13 Also, I could not find the Micron gizmo amp either but I found this: http://www.gnarlywireless.com/product_accessories/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=183&Itemid=13 ... could it be used in a bag ? I'm working an a series about college football and on the field, I can't always get the reach I'd want...
  3. How big and what weight would be that box that makes the mic work with other recorders/mixers ? Is there a reason Schoeps went this way ? Technology imperatives ? Choosing one company vs. all the other companies, I mean, I know lots of audio mixers use the SD unit but, still, that seems curious to me, considering all of us try to avoid by all means adding boxes and adaptors and cables and other ''high-end'' gizmos in our kits ...? Well, that would also suggest that there's only one company that went ''the right way'', ain't it ?
  4. Anybody has an idea about how come companies don't make lithium rechargeable small batteries nowadays ? Is it only that there's no market for it ? I'm asking cause I chose the TRX900AA instead of TRX900 just because I knew I'd be in trouble having to find a CR123 batt. right in the middle of India or China or ... (well you get the picture) if I suddenly came short for whatever reason. And not having the option to carry rechargeable CR123s with me, I chose the most ''trouble free'' solution at the expense of compactness. At least, I can buy some AAs everywhere in the world.
  5. ...a nice review here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/camcorders/canon-xf300.shtml ... and now, Canon's also announcing the release of the 60D. I don't know if we'll be seeing lots of them on shootings but it's the ''evolution'' of the 50D: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_60d
  6. Just checked again, still no bulletin..? Do we have to be on a mailing list ?
  7. Any news now about how to update the older ones ? Or maybe a link ?
  8. Going there too for three weeks soon. Concerning "indian turista", have you heard about Dukoral? I've been told it helps (trying it this time so I'll see...) Apart from that, it's time to dress in white and drink bottled water ! :-)
  9. Good to know we can "ignore" SVEN when we get used to the presets and do our thing straight through without having to wait for confirmation messages ... As for the self destruct, well, I could suggest other brands that could have it but not SD please... :OP And concerning the voice, I'd probably go with Tom Araya for the weak batteries so I'm sure I won't miss the cue ...
  10. The SQN may have an export extra charge for Americas but even if you try to buy it in Europe, you'll still be paying big money (I checked a few years ago). Same with Schoeps mics I'd pay around 1 1/2 times the price (if not more) in France as opposed to here in Canada. Well, at that time, I figured I could save some dough cause I was going to Europe for a while but I ended up buying everything here in Canada or in the US. Chris got a nice point there (the PDA options). I'll soon check the mixer as a friend is waiting for his (he's second on the list here) and I'm eager to see if I indeed dig this SVEN. Usually, these voice things get on my nerves real quick, especially if I have to wait 'til the voice is over to get to the actual parameter modification ...
  11. Good call ! On what brand of wireless mics did you use with those? (did you have to modify the connector?) What antenna model did you use (I guess it's the 900-120)?
  12. farroutpro: this is just what I was thinking about... (your link) As for me, I use the filter antenna (Zaxcom system) to do the same (the unit is a little bigger though, but it worked nice the few times I had to use it exactly in that situation: talent in a car - but no speedo so far! ).
  13. It's bigger, but the detachable antenna is an azz saver when talent sits in a car; you just plug an antenna extension, fix it on soulder underneath the garment, and you're done for a good decent range...
  14. I think you're not mistaking (I think 3.3 volts is the recommended DPA4063). I check the specs soon
  15. CUB-01 ; when using my MixPre to feed it, I have to turn phantom power on so I figured it needed it on Txs too (specs say: 48 volts +or- 4 volts)... I'd have to adapt it to lemo connectors (using Zaxcom 900 Txs) I'll sure check it out with more attention, thanks for the pointer Paul
  16. About distant plants: now if a company could make a 250mW unit that's as small as can be (like the SMQV) and with phantom power (thinking about a shotgun or a CUB-01 as plant mic)...
  17. What I've heard so far (two times) is that the CSS-5 is a little noisy. Let's hope they release a CSS-5e soon... ;-)
  18. Well, my 302 actually came with a right angle 1/8 male to 1/4 female 6" wire. But there's so much left space on both sides of it in my Petrol Pegz1 that I use it sometimes, sometimes not without worrying. If I tuck a 552 in the bag one day, that will be a different story. :-)
  19. The Aquapack: A guy here in Mtl uses them and is very happy with it. I've seen it and it's pretty convincing... a little hard to close (tight) but undoubtedly efficient. I personnally don't have any but would consider it .
  20. That'd be a nice feature to be able to stop/rec with the Rx. I too use the IFB in my bag to remotely control stop/rec but also gain levels and power mode on Txs. Lately, I found out I could extend my battery time in a critical time (end of a very long interview - not recording with the Tx - simply by going to "power mode LOW1" which lead me from "S1" to "S2" on my Tx...). And once, while shooting I had to change frequency on a mic and also used the IFB to do it at distance, without disturbing anybody. Practical.
  21. Been using the Sony PCM-D50 since around 2 months now and very satisfied with this unit and how it's seen as a hard drive by my computer when time comes to transfer the files. Never tried any other brand so I can't compare. But I did a lot of research before buying, especially regarding audio quality and solidity of the unit. A good bang for the buck so far (especially since B&H sent the $50.00 worth rycote for free when buying the item !). \Ü/
  22. ...Ok, just saw the Sony XLR1 adapter and it's got 1/8" jack so I figure out you can use both 1/8" and optical jacks to input the device... ?
  23. How do you go from 1/8" or TA3 connector line out to Line In Optical (of the PCM-D50) ? I'd guess you'd need a converter ? Asking cause if so, you'd have to choose a Mic Out Beachtec unit (only one model -the 6HD - has the Line Output capability but it's 1/8").
