  1. Just realized something. When I started out productions flew their mixers in from the major cities. Now though, I've noticed a lot of companies just hiring local mixers no matter where they go. Could it be that they are doing this to get the most out of what ever incentive program is going on in the state. So many states have one now. If it has anything to do with the amount spent, which I'm sure it does, then hiring a local sound mixer is guaranteed to have a good return. Out of any local they'll hire the mixer will probably have the highest daily cost between rate and especially if they are supplying gear. Local mixers hires should be pushing for even more money in this case.
  2. Phil, That might just be the best description of what we look like with the kit on.

    Que Audio?

I believe Pro-sound has them. They're for college productions and people just starting out. No idea how they sound. But it for the price and everything you get it's not a bad stepping stone into the location audio world.
  4. Gee, I just hope it has some built in video games to play. With the joy stick and all. Even just some Atari games or something. Although if they were Atari games then it'll need to have big orange button. Yeah, they really need a big orange button to go along with the joy stick. That sure would be swell.
  5. If they machined the aluminum to have more surface area they could make it lighter and help dissipate heat.
  6. I really wish someone would ask me about it while in an elevator. That way I can playout the scene from Ghostbusters, and tell them I was an exterminator, and that someone saw a cockroach on 14. Hopefully they will reply with,"Must be a big cockroach?". Than I'll say,"Bite your head off!". So far it's only happened in my dreams.
  7. Rado, You've managed to get this posted to every post related to the 664. On forums and FB.
  8. I primarily do bag work, and I live in NYC. So I take the subway quite regularly. I use to pack everything in a case so you couldn't see any gear, but that became a pain so I now carry a small pelican 1510, a back pack, and my mixer over the shoulder. I've been doing this for several years now, and one thing I've noticed is the looks I get from people. I don't expect people to know what I'm carrying, but many have this look like I'm carrying a bomb on the train. Only about 1% know what I'm carrying and talk to me about it, and maybe less than that ask me about it who don't know what it is. I've even had people just come right up and look into my sound kit. Complete invasion of space. Almost clocked someone for it. Things like this even occur when I'm with the crew. There is a camera around and lights and what not. One woman at a subway station said,"Well, they say, See something say something, right?". I was not impressed, and didn't find it funny. She was just trying to be funny. She did ask what it was afterward, which I explained it to her. Just wondering if anyone has ever felt this way, or noticed this? Maybe even had the police question them. Which I have to say that the NYPD doesn't even give me a second look. I guess they're just use to it.
  9. I do reality work in NYC, and I'm not afraid to admit it. The money is often better, and the people I work with are often much more friendly. I think on the right gig, with the right people the sound dept. actually gets more respect than on the average film set. I've Supervised one Small simple show last summer, but generally just work as a mixer or A2.
  10. I have UM400a's, SMQv's, and SMv transmitter in my arsenal. I have to say I prefer the SMQv's and SMv's for ease of use and hiding, but I have also had to send everyone of them back for service in less than a years time for various reasons. All of my UM's have been rock solid except 1 unit (which happened to be the very first lectro product I ever bought). I feel the SM series aren't as robust as the UM's. Something to take into consideration, but I think they are still worth it, maybe they just need more attention than the UM's. I have gotten the occasional complaint about the heat from the SMQv's. One woman actually swore it was burning her, so, of course I changed it out, but it was just warm. As I took it off I just said to her it's fine I'm holding it with my bare hands and I'm not getting burnt from it, and then put a UM on her instead. I think she just wanted to feel like someone gave a shit. Looking for attention. Never had UM's get hot unless they were on my bag as hops and it was a hot day and there wasn't any shade. I have seen them stop working because of the heat in that situation.
  11. But with wireless being used on just about every shoot nowadays, why update the gear rate to include a set # of wireless and then charge more for any over that amount. Say even just like 2 units or something, and tag on another $150 or more?
  12. I was joking, but it would be nice if you could only turn the stuff on when it's been payed for. I believe a few guys on here make use of the swiper.
  13. Great idea. Maybe they use the same technology from the hover boards in Back to the Future 2. I heard those things were for real. :-p
  14. I'd like to have a credit card swiper. Make production pay on the spot for my services and gear. They have to swipe at the beginning of the day to activate the gear they've requested to brought, and they will be charged accordingly. Then if they need something more that they didn't request they have to swipe again to activate the new gear. Then at the end of the day they swipe so they can get the files recorded. The charge would be your day rate including any OT. No screwing around on getting paid.
  15. I ride my road bicycle, and go fishing. Play my bass and guitars as well. Not all at the same time.
  16. Maybe everyone who has built a cart could compile a list of where they found the parts they used on their builds. Like wheels, hinges, latches, etc...
  17. Is it Causing a problem with the actual sound and range?
  18. I think one major problem is the use of the term 24p. Wasn't 24p actually 23.98 on some cameras? Maybe I'm just confused. Oh the madness.
  19. Call Pro-sound. They'll get them for you quickly. I use tem iin all of my cases, as well as the lid organizer. I keep a ton of stuff in my Pelican 1510 case.
  20. Really, another 4 page and counting Zaxcom wish list for new gear? How many pages did it get to for the Nomad? [;-p
  21. A cam op once told me he worked with a sound mixer that had a T-shirt that said,"Place Key Light Here!" It might have been a boom op that was wearing.
  22. With the current Nomad bag the Kortwich is producing you can put a cup on each side. That's what I'm currently doing.
