  1. Hi Billy, what is that Firebox doing? And have you got portable RX in addition to the RX4900? I will get at least two for the out of the porta jobs. btw - I will get two of those Areitec phantom supplies made for the trx 900 by 2moro ... Matthias
  2. if that will work on the 744 too that would be awesome!! It would eliminate a lot of additional work I currently have to do with my SD files. Please SoundDevices, Please! Matthias
  3. was shooting in a flat last night and had some strange hum coming through the mic. Changed cable position on the floor, although it was away from any lighting cables, changed to wireless boom, unplugged from AC - all without success. Then we spotted the reason in the wall!! It must have been the house AC (maybe the HMIs that has been plugged into it?). Changed from CMIT to MKH and it was clean ... First time in to years of using the CMIT though. Matthias
  4. I wanted to use one of the aux busses of my Cooper mixer for a playback-mix but noticed that the dialogue came through the speakers too as it was on the other aux for Comtek-monitoring. Is that normal behaviour that much of a crosstalk? I used the direct out instead and it was clean. It just takes away the possibility to have more than one source on the playback-speakers (thats what I would need today ...) Cheers, Matthias
  5. even I who grew up behind the iron curtain was listening to his music - although not directly: we had a very popular musician in GDR named Manfred Krug (a close friend to Armin Müller Stahl) and he recorded some Stax influenced funky soul albums back in the 60s that were in my parents collection. Although no one would have admited that this was American music. It was much later in the late 1990 when I dicovered the original Isaac Hayes and thought: well those guys must have had his records that`s for sure. Thanks for the music! Matthias
  6. thats a good one actually! I will suggest that version to the Director. But than we have to drive more often ... Matt
  7. that`s what I pointed out to the Director and DOP very early on. Both are really open to my concerns and so there will be no generator involved. As to cover up the insert car engine sound in post I will suggest that we have some master shots with the bikes going in some light traffic (just wide shots where you can have the dialogue track from the CUs). What I read from the script there might be some overlapping dialogue. I will address this to the Director again as they most probably wanna have the off-screen talents voice EQed to a phony sound which will not be possible if they do overlap. btw. I will have some car-dialogue on that trailer as well and have told the trailer company to move the generator to the front of their vehicle rather than having it on the platform. They will do. Thanks to all for your help!! Matthias
  8. yeah I guess you`re right - the speed is the only parameter I can work on. Actually there will be two people on bikes next to each other and we will shoot the scene with two cams, one on each and we pretend that they will ride alone while having their cell conversation. So I`m assuming that framing will be rather tight as they need to have the other person out of frame. That will help as the boom can come in close. Will let you know how it worked ... Cheers, matt
  9. Hi there, I have a scene with dialogue where the actor will be on a bike. We will do the dialogue part on a trailer. Fortunately there will be no genni but I`m concerned about wind on mic and the engine of the trailer-car. How is booming dialogue at 30km/h (around 20mph)? Is it possible or will it suffer from heavy wind noise? I will have lavs too but the actor wears a T-shirt only so proper wind protection will not be possible due to the tight wardrobe. He will be talking to his cellphone but even if I put a mic into the phone how will I run the cable? And the tx is small but not small enough to hide it inside a prop phone or something like that. And he doesn`t wear a basecap or anything where I could place a lav. Any ideas are appreciated. matthias
  10. it`s the main rental house here in Berlin. They just have mooved to a bigger location. Good staff + good stuff ... Matthias
  11. Philip, that`s the Zaxcom receiver RX4900. It`s 4 stereo-receiver in a 19" 1HU unit. works great but I have to get some portable units for bag mode. Unless working on a studio floor I always lean the cart back when wheeling around. Thats why the handles are not straight but ankled so I get a good balance. But with the little wheels on the front you can `dance`on the spot! But you got me on the laptop - that`s still on the to do list. I might add a motu traveler that will fit into the case just underneath the rx4900 (the ew300 will move behind the SD744). But I will need a swing arm/holder for the laptop. Fernando, you absolutely right with the spaced antennas - another thing on the to do list. but isn`t it fun anyway that all mixers are always improving their baby? ;-) and Jeff, it`s a great show indeed!! Matthias
  12. I should have an english version of the text, shouldn`t I? I have done 3 features with my new cart and it has been working really good. After the first shoot I added the wooden block inside the lower case as I felt I could need a bit of extra strenght. But that was based on feeling only. The wheels performed really good even on cobble stones. In the beginning I thought about an U-shaped frame like on another cart here in the forum (http://www.jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1051.msg7912#msg7912) but the metal-company was too busy and I had to start my shoot so I went this route instead. It feels like a insurance that I could go to the U-profile version if necessary. Matthias
  13. I uploaded some better pics on my new little website: http://www.schallrichter.de/soundcart.html Cheers, Matthias
  14. I`m always wondering why most sound mixers have such a heavy base for their cart. Specially if it is rack-cases based. You have strapped two racks togther already. Why add all this extra weight? The only thing you are missing are 4 wheels and a handle bar. But as Paul said - it`s all about personal taste. After reading Paul`s experience I`m VERY happy that I`ve been lucky when building my cart and it was working great from day one (spent $ 800 approx in total) Matthias
  15. that is done by a Berlin engineer and is sold by a Berlin rental company http://www.filmtontechnik.de/ . They have sold it all over Germany and Europe a lot. As I said it is very light weigth. Without the battery it`s about 30gramm. Matthias
  16. would love to have an AB listening with my 48V supply! Still looking for the "rivals a hardwire" quality promised by Zaxcom. Matthias
  17. to go wireless on the boom for me (and my BoomOps!! so far) means having no cable at all running down the pole. When the boomOp puts the pole down for a rest I still want to receive a signal. If he got the tx and 48V in a bag around his waist he would need to de-rig. Makes it rather complicated. But than again it is absolutely the BoomOps decision how to work. If he prefers it around the waist- go for it. As long as I stay connected to the floor. The rig itself isn`t that heavy. The aluminium-plate is 20gramm, the 48V weighs like a 9V-battery but the tx got some weight - true. Matthias
  18. just got it yesterday. Next shoot will tell ... You can rig it the other way around if one prefers. Matthias
  19. I have found a light and small solution for booming wireless with my TRX 900 and Schoeps CMIT. The 48V supply has been modified as it didn`t work with Schoeps in a previous version. Still bit more noisy than hardwired and not as open and rich like on cable but good for the moments when I have to go wireless ... more detailed: http://www.jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1295.0;attach=454 Matthias
  20. Hi Jeff, wanted to upload a pic but get a message that the upload folder is full ... Matthias

  22. got my units back on friday from Munich. The new DPA 4063 has improved the situation although it is still not perfect. But the remaining RF-noise is much less than with the older version. If one cranks up the headphone volume it is still audible and it shifts with the lav cable position. But when listening to it in standard volume it sounds pretty clean. What helped a lot is the software expander from the TRX. It brings down the noisefloor and doesn`t effect the audio in a critical way. Without the expander I still find the lavs too noisy. The B6 doesn`t get these RF "fieping" like the DPA but it is more noisy. Again the expander brings the noisefloor down. After some listening my current settings for the expander are: 1:1.30, -40dB, -8dB, normal I did some testing with my boom mics too: powered from a SD302, line out SD into an adapter cable, into the TRX. The level tone from the SD302 sounded a bit nasty. Some harmonics on top or something. When listening AB a couple of CMITs (one hardwired into my Cooper) it sounded alright. Slightly different but more on the tasty side of life. I would still prefer the hardwired one. But it`s good to know, that I could use it this way if I have to. All testing has been in a quiet environment so I would assume that in real life with some atmos around, some clothes rustling and the boom mic in the mix to open up the lavs - it should work. One strange thing I have noticed: if I push the gain on the TRX beyond 30dB the audio will become distorded - even with low level audio. 32dB is distorded and 34dB then will mute the audio!! Any ideas about that one? Cheers, Matthias
  23. I have to agree. The new look got less contrast and that feels like a filter or something in front of everthing. Although the look itself resp. layout looks funky. Matt
  24. thanks Richard for suggestions! Will do all different kinds of testing as soon as I get my units back from Ambient. The have been waiting for the redesigned backplate there ... Jeff - Glenn was sending over a TRX 700 for testing on the job. That`s what I actually refered to when I was saying that the CMIT and the MK41 sounded noisy and got RF. Before that I was testing with a Ambient 48V supply and as far as I remember I didn`t had probs with RF but it just sounded to noisy compared to a hardwire. But I will definitely do a run with a SD302 (as a test replace for the MM) and go line level into the TRX. The Neutrik hint is a good one. I will look into it as well. Should get my units this week and will keep you updated. Thanks for your support everyone! Matthias
