I recently took some pictures of my old Sela mixer and thought some of you might be interested in seeing the complexity of my set-up from the early 1980's. Straight to 1 track - simple and sweet.

I just did a google search to determine the moisture resistance of RØDE TF-5 microphones and was given this…quite peculiar AI synopsis. Looks like it’s not only humidity resistant but I can basically use it as a hydrophone! I’m not sure the robot overlords are quite yet ready to take over.

Here are some pictures taken in the German music store "Instrumente - Noten," located at Sonnenstr. 15, in Munich, during the winter of 2024. I was deeply inspired by the merchandise available in their store: a true musician's dream.

Well three months of designing and fabricating an upgrade for my Nagra V. Long article to follow later but here is an early taste of it. Here's what it looked like before: https://www.nagraaudio.com/product/nagra-v/ Here's what I did: Swapped the HDD with a CF card and got rid of the proprietary battery. Significant weight savings (1kg) and slimmer, more flexibility to use modern batteries and modern recording medium. So far, I have tried three different brands/capacities of CF card (Transcend, Sandisk, Kingston) and all work even at 96/24 for 30+ minutes. Used Fusion to draw and CNC a new lid, handle, and 'backpack'. …

I didn’t take pictures but I just watched a couple of movies where mics were totally positioned wrong and it really made me laugh. One was the Dalton Trumbo biopic and the other was the Chess records film. Both show side address mics repeatedly being pointed at the source as if they were top address mics. Not to mention that some of the mics pictured had not been invented yet in some cases. I thought it would be funny to start a thread for people to post a screen shot whenever they see something like that!

I have always been attracted to art. I do not draw, or paint, although I love to take photo's. I love when I can take an artistic approach to a scene. For a couple of years now, I have really been digging "street art", and found a great website for it, in case anyone else is interested. www.streetartutopia.com Here some recent art finds I would like to share with everyone. Enjoy! and

So, while we were at IBC, we were made aware of a really cool bar called the Whisky Cafe. They have over 1500 different bottles of Whisky on hand, plus lots of other stuff. If you are ever in Amsterdam, and you enjoy yourself a good whisky, check this place out. Here are two pictures.

I like to think of myself as being fairly openminded, with a "if it works, it works" attitude, and a fan of Cardellini (and Cardellini-style) clamps. But, um...

Humans never could have taken to the oceans without rope: no string, no mariners. Photo by Stephen Barnes/Transport/Alamy Stock Photo String is far more important than the wheel in the pantheon of inventions. by Ferris Jabr March 6th, 2018 | 2,500 words, about 13 minutes https://www.hakaimagazine.com/features/the-long-knotty-world-spanning-story-of-string/ The void opened suddenly—a negative space where there had once been sand. Kathryn Bard stuck her hand straight through the gap and felt nothing but air. It just kept going. She considered her surroundings: a slope of windblown sand near a terrace of fossilized coral 700 meters inland fr…

1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Polizia Chassis no. 3999 GT Engine no. 3999 GT The Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 The GTE was the first production 2+2 from Maranello, offering the ultimate GT experience to a discerning clientele that needed to travel with speed, comfort and all the flair the prancing horse could offer. Development started in 1959 from the successful 250 long wheelbase chassis that was widened in order to guarantee a roomier cabin. For the same reason, the notorious Colombo engine was moved forward and an elegant body was commissioned from Pininfarina. The car was a commercial success …

I just caught 2 scenes of Young Sheldon and with his lav mic exposed next to his shirt button. I was hard to see the grill but it looks like there is no windscreen and the grill has maybe 5 holes . Not sure what type it is.

Bruce Bisenz, one of my oldest sound mixer friends, retired 3 years ago and so is no longer using this custom mixing panel he designed and had built. Bruce had a long and interesting career having done such films as "Norma Rae", "Personal Best", "Purple Rain", and "Tequila Sunsrise". This mixer was last used by Bruce on the film "Without Limts" in 1998. Here is Bruce's description of the panel: Everything was designed during the 2 track era to make it possible to precision equalize wireless mics/lavaliers (first with my custom nominal curve) and then to trim individually so that lav sound would be a dead match for the fishpole mic. Also to route various mics and (equ…

Hi, Just finished a Belgian movie 'The broken circle Breakdown' It involved a lot of playback from previously recorded music. We made a 'live'mix of the recorded tracks, different on each location. And recorded this mix with a series of surround microphones to 'worldize' the music in various locations. I hope and feel it will be a wonderfull film ! Regards Jan Deca Brussels, Belgium
