AndyB Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but the story was so beautiful. A man spending 75 years of his 85 year life perfecting a craft, or an art, maybe. Maybe I just like sushi? Anyway, I thought it was the essence of a good documentary, without unnecessary VO to tell us what is going on. Just the story straight from the source. http://movies.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=70181716&trkid=497086 Quote
AndyB Posted September 3, 2012 Author Report Posted September 3, 2012 Also thought it related to the perfecting of a craft and turning it into an art, which many here strive for. Quote
Max Hirtenstein Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 One of my favorite docs in recent memory BUT, where's the sound mixer credit?! I doubt they just slapped a mic on their RED. Quote

AndyB Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Link takes me right to the show, Eric. Most likely because I linked it from my Netflix viewing experience. Just enter "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" in Netflix and you'll find it straight up. And Max, glad you enjoyed the film, but it wasn't about sound at all. It was about taste...for a start. Quote
jason porter Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 The first "food show" that I ever worked on, the director grabs me and says "TV doesn't have taste or smell, so the sound of the food is very important" I was sure to record everything and anything in the kitchen that made an appetizing sound. ...but it wasn't about sound at all. It was about taste...for a start. Quote
fieldmixer Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Great documentary film indeed. I don't think there was a dedicated sound person on it. Quote

Andy, thanks for the tip but there's no place on the link page to do that. Only a sign in box. Eric Quote
AndyB Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Do you have a Netflix account, Eric? I think that might be the prerequisite. Could be wrong, as its happened before. Quote

There are sounds in this doc, such as slicing into a large chunk of tuna...I get what you're saying! Quote
AndyB Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 No I don't Andy. That must be the issue, then. Sorry! Quote
Chase Yeremian Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Just watched it. Really excellent, and now I'm hungry . It's pretty amazing how this guy has been doing this for 75 years and is still plugging along. Quote
Johnny Karlsson Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Just watched it too and like it very much... Man, I'm ready to pay 300 bucks to eat that guy's sushi right now! Quote
Chase Yeremian Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 LAX to Tokyo, 900 dollars round trip. Who's with me! Quote
Martin Kittappa Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 my wife being from Japan is real sushi snob, she can spot bad or mediocre sushi a mile off and won't eat it - We saw the movie at the Laemmle in Pasadena and she was drooling all the way though it! Jiro's sushi sure sounded good! Quote
