Pleasesendmemoney
I have a Sony ECM77B lav mic with the standard XLR connector. My question is……is it possible to physically cut that XLR connector off and solder on a 3.5mm locked connector? And obviously still have it work properly. Tim Norris
I do this (have it done for me) but with a TA5 for 'Lectro. Cheers, Tim
dsound
Hi Tim, Can you share the pin wire assignment for the TA5 soldering. Thanks!
TVPostSound
I have an ECM77B. Why not put a battery in the preamp shell, and use a female XLR to 1/8" locking? https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-004840-CL-2/dp/B003LRYUBE/ref=asc_df_B003LRYUBE/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693544921083&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17931085367693043547&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9190171&hvtargid=pla-633362881917&psc=1&mcid=b1eeffbbe6ec34ad86ff1f751896707f&gad_source=1#customerReviews

Was is someone available to us or is it a friend? I can solder. If it’s possible could you point in the right direction as how to do the conversion? Thank you very much. The part you mentioned would make an already huge XLR connection that much bigger. I need minimalist so I’m going for small, unobtrusive. Great idea for other applications but not my use case. Thank you very much for the idea. I think it will help folks who need that connection.

I can't, because I do not do it myself. I believe wiring instructions come with all 'Lectro transmitters. Cheers, Tim
borjam
I found service manuals for the ECM77 microphones (and others) https://www.manualslib.com/download/2989956/Sony-Ecm-44bmp.html According to a note it includes ECM-77B in an appendix. The diagrams include cable colors, so I guess it will be possible. Note: the capsule assembly includes some electronics, a FET transistor. I would check whether the part numbers are the same for the BMP/B variants.

It seems like I could, in fact, just cut the wire off the large end where the battery goes and solder the wires to a 3.5mm TRS Locking Connector. But I’m not 100% sure about that. Pleasesendmemoney
I’m just not 100% sure about cutting the wire and soldering it to a 3.5mm connection. My other option is to sell it. Hmmmm……
Rick Reineke
I had a ECM 77 which which I converted to use with a Tx, though it was long ago and I do it recall the pin assignment. I also put a compatible jack on the XLR power supply's cable, so I could still use it in a hard wired scenario.

Rick......please excuse my lack of knowledge on these matters but.....what did you mean when said "to use with a Tx"? What is a Tx?
Rick Reineke
Tx is an abbreviation for "transmitter" Rx is an abbreviation for "receiver"
