  1. The Shure A53M shock mounts are relatively low profile and fit the 012 perfectly. They're the 5/8"-27 thread and $35.50 @ Markertek. http://www.markertek.com/Audio-Equipment/Microphone-Accessories/Microphone-Holders-Mounts/Shure-Inc/A53M.xhtml The WindTech SP-20 shock mounts are cheaper ($10.50) but I don't think they isolate as good as the Shure. I have the A53Ms for my 012 stereo pair.
  2. Portabrace Piggin' Strings - Velcro Cable Wrap Four for less than $25 cheap . I use them for hanging headphones on my bag.
  3. Same as Tom stated above.. I wire the XLR to G3 line level config. as such: XLR pin-1 (shield/ground) to mini-plug Tip & Shield XLR pin-2 (hot) to mini-plug Ring XLR pin 3 (cold) jumped in XLR to pin-1* As 'cinetj' did, an attenuation resistor may be necessary, as program peaks in excess of +14dB (or so) will clip the G2/3 SK100 bodypack transmitter's input stage... regardless of the sensitivity adj. * NOTE: for unbalanced XLR output on a Sound Devices 302 , SD states that XLR pin 3 should be floated. this applies to the 302 only.. so refer to the manual prior to making the cable.
  4. In the Sennheiser line level wired config., the 1/8' plug's tip needs to be tied to shield. Don't know it's the cause of the the 'thin' sound though. What's the 18k ohm resistor for? Attenuation?
  5. +1 to Philips above post. Though I've never actually 'measured' a G2/3 EK100 portable receiver's output, it 'appears' to be somewhere between (nominal) -10 and +4dB (assuming the transmitter's input signal is set to unity) and the 'AF level' is set to max. +12dB. It's also unbalanced, so if the XLR input connector is wired in a balanced config., a few more dBs are lost.
  6. Yes, A prosperous and fun New Year to all my JW group friends.. naturally this includes Senator/Mike.
  7. Incorrectly wired cable or the receiver's AF out is set low. As Max stated the AF output set to +12dB should yield significant level for line inputs. BTW, the EK100 portable receiver's output is unbalanced and must be wired in such a manner.
  8. In your opinion asterix2k10, what is "true line level"? Nominal or maximum peak? All of which are in the specs.
  9. I'm not familiar with the Line Audio CM3. Upon perusing the specs the sensitivity is stated as '6mV' which is a low output for recording quiet sounds. Low noise preamps with a lot of gain would be wanted. The 680's preamps are... OK.. but not great. It also does not a front end limiter so the input stage can be easily overdriven. External batteries would be wanted as well. The 'internal' 8 AA batteries don't last long (especially w/ Phantom Powered mics) and they're a real PITA to change when it's in a bag, connected to other gear, which requires almost complete disconnection/reconnection to access the internal batteries.. in a Petrol bag for instance External high quality pre amps would be recommenced.. a MixPre or 302 would be a good start, and later on could be used for a 744 upgrade.. mic inputs 3-4.
  10. With all due respect Senator.. same here.. ideally.. is the key word. I used an 57/ A55M shock mount /A2WS windscreen for years for government/corporate/broadcast gigs. Inexperienced speakers 'drifting' off a podium or table mic (or afraid of) is always a problem.
  11. I suppose you could get these and modify to attach to something else. Two pouches, a backing/mating plate and Velcro strap. They're cheap enough. $16.00 USD. At least here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/686619-REG/Petrol_PS604_Deca_Double_Wireless_Audio.html
  12. I still have a Conn 'Strobotuner' from when I was a guitar player. About 11x6x6" and 5Ibs, it's still is very accurate though and I still use it. I also used it in my studio days to calibrate tape machines to non-tunable instruments.
  13. " some Mackies that do have direct outs are actually post fader" - Yes, the VLZ series 16+ channel series had post fader direct outs. All the Onyx series direct outs are pre fader and pre EQ. (including the HPF unfortunately)
  14. I have an gen. 1 1620 Onyx. Don't use it that often but it sounds good. Four pre/post aux. sends, pre fader direct outs via a DB25 connector and other output options. An internal Firewire card could be used as well, which I don't have nor a DC mod so AC power is necessary.
  15. I like Countryman E6 headsets, wired or with your favorite wireless systems. The E6 in very discrete and probably would be visible only on close-ups. While the 441 is a great mic, it's output level in kind of low for spoken word type programs, so a lot of clean gain would likely be needed. Live performance type mics ( 57, 58, ect.) should ideally be within 6" of the speaker's pie hole.
  16. Not to go off topic but.. this online utility can unlock PDF files: http://www.crackmypdf.com/ I've used it many times.
  17. Typically, on the XLR input end, pins 1 & 3 are tied together when going from an unbalanced output to a balanced input. The EK100 portable receiver's included XLR cable is wired as such. That's all I'm sayin.. The OP should read-up on the ramifications and issues with unbalanced & balanced operation..
  18. -20C (= -4F) That's cold but not extreme IMO. I've worked a few times in the NYS Catskill and Adirondack regions @ -10F w/ wind. Don't know why the Petrol plastic would crack unless it was bent sufficiently when cold. Never had cold temp issues with a Portabrace... though I now have a Petrol but haven't worked with it in the extreme cold. Great pictures for sure and looks like an interesting shoot.
  19. Happy Birthday Larry! Don't do anything that I'd do... drinking, drugs, woman, ect.
  20. I have and like the D5's as well as.. Auratones. When I want to hear what's down under, I have a third system with a sub.
  21. This adapter cable has two mono L & R female 3.5mm jacks to a stereo 3.5mm male plug. http://www.markertek.com/Cables/Audio-Cables/Audio-Y-Cables-Y-Cables/TecNec/Y-MPS-2MF.xhtml Audio recorded to a DSRL does not sound very good no matter what you use. Don't say we didn't warn you.
  22. Bears more than a strong resemblance to Don's hair style.
  23. I use the Portabrace Piggin' strings, (Velcro with a hook) Affordable (4 for $12 or so) securely hold HPs or cables. The $50 hook seems a bit much to me.. but maybe it's a ___ 'designer' ___ item.
  24. Yes indeed Eric. Tower Products, in Saugerties NY (close to Woodstock). Tower also acquired Sescom after the passing of Frank Miller a few years ago. I am an acquaintance of Tower/Markertek's owner, who is a very nice guy as well.
