  1. To IA 695 members.... please submit your election ballot as soon as you can. Many of the nominated candidates are "white ballotted" (no opposing candidate) and you can see them listed on the 695 website as well as in the letter that accompanied the ballot, but you're vote still makes a big difference. You are stakeholders in this endeavor and coming out of Trusteeship, a high voter turnout sends an important message by showing that the membership is fully engaged in its future.
  2. Jay, it could take you a long time to fix WOT's incorrect data that way but you might try to report the problem here https://www.mywot.com/en/contact and select "Problem with my site's reputation". Otherwise, they are actively and without reason interfering with your right to conduct business. And that ain't cool... or legal.
  3. Exactly. I said to my wife, "I liked everything about it but the movie."
  4. THIS JUST IN: ‘Shahs Of Sunset’ Strike Over: Deal Ratified With Ryan Seacrest Productions See http://deadline.com/2014/10/shahs-of-sunset-strike-bravo-union-agreement-ryan-seacrest-849670/ We can do it if we stand together. THANKS TO ALL WHO JOINED US ON THE PICKET LINE AND MADE THIS HAPPEN!!!
  5. I'd love to see that happen but the lawyers would have to take a look at it first and I'm guessing that could be a violation of the Contract. But what we can do is join the Los Angeles picket line Friday, Oct. 10, at 5750 Wilshire, east of Fairfax (right near SAG-AFTRA headquarters)... all day. It's not just for the "Shahs of Iran" crew... it's for all of us.
  6. http://deadline.com/2014/10/iatse-rallies-against-bravos-shahs-of-sunset-847538/ Dave Robb gets right to the point in this article by explaining what's at stake. The picket Line will continue this Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, to demonstrate that we are united and continue to support the "Shahs of Sunset" crew. Same location in Los Angeles... 5750 Wilshire, east of Fairfax (right near SAG-AFTRA headquarters.) Call time is 9:30 am but you can come by any time during the day.
  7. For those with Twitter accounts, will you please let Bravo know how you feel about their anti-union behavior? Bravo TV will be running a "Shahs of Sunset" marathon this afternoon, starting at 1:30 (Eastern & Pacific). When they do, it'd be great to get Twitter lit up with messages of protest to Bravo. Local 700' suggests we tweet this: #Shahs marathon? #NotWatching! #Shame on @BravoTV 4 #unionbusting, crewing w/ #scabs! Sign an @IATSE contract! @mpeg700 #1u #shahsofsunset And folks who are on Twitter (or are willing to sign up for Twitter) can automagically send that tweet by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/ShahsMTweet Please share that link far and wide and ask people to click to tweet sometime after 1:30 Eastern.
  8. The picket line will continue Monday morning, Sept 29, in continued support of the "Shahs of Sunset" crew at the same location: 5750 Wilshire (right near SAG-AFTRA headquarters.) Call time is 9:00am and we'll be there all day so even if you can spare only an hour or two, please join us. Local 695 members should save their parking receipt and submit to the Local... and don't forget to wear you Local 695 hat or t-shirt!!
  9. True... you'd have to be able to watch 10 things at once in order to keep an eye on the extras, the actors, the dolly, the lens barrel, lots more... AND still be able to glance quickly at a video monitor without skipping a beat. It's call "booming."
  10. Senator, you actually already said that in dozens of other posts. Please do a search before posting.
  11. Mirror, you were right to call me out on saying "since THAT won't happen, neither will the stronger Basic Agreement be applied to all." I really should not be that pessimistic. Certainly the Producers would not be quick to agree with it... and it could not happen if they didn't agree because they have to sign the Contract... but if it were actually possible that everybody was fully committed to making the stronger and better Contract the only Contract, then the Producers wouldn't have much choice.
  12. Jeff, under the Basic Agreement, the producer can bring a Local 695 member to work just about anywhere they want. That ability to work under the better wages and conditions of the Basic, along with maybe even a perceived prestige element for the resume, might be reasons why some people join 695. But as you well know, 695 has neither a large number of non-Los Angeles members nor a plan to change that. Bringing all IA workers nationwide under the Basic Agreement or even just all the sound and video people would help the members tremendously but of course, this won't ever happen unless the people outside of 695 made it happen... and since THAT won't happen, neither will the stronger Basic Agreement be applied to all. The Producer has us right where they want us, competing and bickering with each other, easily assuring that they can continue to maintain control over the workforce.
  13. Wow, RVD got a whole lot of things messed up in that post, as in previous posts, but I don't think I could change his mind about any of it. As has often been said on this forum, there are lots of different reasons why different people in different situations would consider joining Local 695 or any other IA Local and those who think they might benefit from those affiliations should probably do so and then see if it suits their needs.
  14. This is a bit of an over-simplification but it's still worth saying.... The title of that article is misleading because if it were really true that the crew was completely fed up, then the problem could be solved tomorrow morning at 7 am by simply not showing up. But, as we all know, if one crew failed to allow themselves to be abused in that manner, another crew would. And so, who's really to blame? The greedy producers create the problem and the hungry crew enables them. Somebody's gotta stop the madness.
  15. We have all taken risks. Maybe that's because 3 am after an 18-hour day is not the best time to be making a critical choice. Not the best time to decide if it's OK to drive home or if it's better to track down someone in the production company who, although at least as exhausted as you, is still able to think clearly enough to book you a hotel room. Not the best time to jump in the car thinking you can do it and then realize maybe you can't. The burden does not fall on the overworked and exhausted employee who can think of nothing more than the urge to be home. The responsibility rests on the employer who put him or her in that crucially dangerous moment where they were least capable of making the decision that could save their life.
  16. Truer words were never spoken.
  17. If you were requesting a "transfer", you would replace one card with another. Maybe that's what you asked for... or what Ken thought you were asking for. If you wanted a dual card, you'd need to ask for that, instead.
  18. The stresses on the pole as shown are identical to those on a pole held by a boom operator... although theoretically less, since it never gets swung or raised, which momentarily increases the stress significantly. If it can't handle this stress, it's not a real boompole.
  19. Yes, the K-Tek is very nice and definitely preferable to what I described. But in a pinch, gaffer's tape (or a little rope) will do. Note that in the image I uploaded, the boom is just resting on the knuckle. All the work is done by the tape/rope on the back end (the left side in the image.)
  20. Safety first... fon't forget the sandbag.
  21. You can replicate the mechanical effect of using a boompole holder very easily. Set up the c-stand with the arm parallel to the ground, and with the c-stand knuckle pointing to the talent and somewhat close to the vertical of the c-stand. Lay the pole across the c-stand knuckle and then tie the back end of the pole to the back end of the c-stand arm with a piece of rope or several wraps of gaffer's tape. Where the boom rests on the knuckle, tie that off, too, for safety. As with a boompole holder, drop a sandbag or 2 on the base of the c-stand... and if you need more extension on the pole, add a sandbag to the back end of the c-stand arm for counter-balance so the c-stand knob doesn't have to work so hard.

    Dave's not here. (Couldn't resist.)
  23. Vin, we do have some of those old publications and here is a glimpse of one. Take at look at the reprint that appears as the last article in this issue of the Quarterly http://www.695quarterly.com/695QuarterlyPDFs/695-Quarterly-2010-Fall.pdf called "Sound - Then and Now at Warner Bros." It's a "looking-back-in-time" article, exploring sound production on the Warner lot and comparing how it was done 20 years ago to how it's done today... written in March of 1953!
